Yeah, just read that myself on cats pauses' rupp rafters. Supposedly they just updated it today. John Wall also still has us on top, but he also now has Memphis up there with high interest too. That worries me a little. Could we possibly hear anymore great news though. First Hopson decommits, now Cousins moving us up to the top of the list. Now all we need is to hear them say they've committed to UK. Man, what a lineup that would be. And with Cousins and Wall coming in together as top 10 recruits! I can see a net being cut down right now.

I thought they were saying he was headed to UAB?
How often does Scout update, and how can you tell?

Had to be updated today, because I was just on there this morning, and everybody's was still the same. It doesn't tell you when they update, you just have to check in on our prospects every so often. But wouldn't it be nice to bring in Cousins, Wall, Villarino and Trent in the same year, and then come in the next year with what's probably going to be our best class in a long time.

Cousins and Hobson would be the key recruits to land. Wall would be nice as well.
I love the excitement back in UK basketball.

dang right. tell me though, i was just having a conversation with my dad the other day and realized something. how long has it been since we have been this excited about our recruiting classes looking so strong? i mean, how long has it been since we were on almost every 5 star prospects list? I don't know about you guys and gals but it's been a while since i've been this hyped up over following our prospects and our guys coming in. I've always paid attention to them, but Billy is going after absolutely all of the very BEST guys that are out there. That is awesome!!
2004 we were on a bunch and got a bunch. 2005 and 2006 we started on quite a few and ended up on none.

In 2004 we ENDED UP with a bunch.
Rondo and Crawford only came on the scene after the fall signing period and after they decommitted from elsewhere.
Morris was the only one we got that OTS was after from the beginning and he didn't get Morris until May. He missed out on all other targets he was after that year.
It's this truth that debunks the argument that OTS didn't go after Lofton because he already had three 5-star players. He didn't get squat during the fall signing period that year, and only had Morris on the radar screen.
I remember this board after the fall signing period and we had missed out on so many players.

DeMarcus Cousins News PF
DeMarcus Cousins another tidbit(wouldnt it be sweeeeeet to have PP, Legion, Meeks, DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.demarcuscousins.org/) and Vilarino in '09)
Kentucky already has a verbal commitment from perhaps its point guard of the future, 2009 Texas standout GJ Vilarino, and this past weekend may have played host to a big man to pair with him.
DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.demarcuscousins.org/)
Birmingham (Ala.) Erwin power forward DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.demarcuscousins.org/), the No. 3 rising junior in the nation according to Rivals.com, made the trip to Lexington for the debut of Billy Gillispie's UK Elite Camp.
"I thought it was great," said the five-star prospect. "I feel like I learned a lot about the game that I didn't know before, and it helped me with parts of my game that I thought I already knew.
"I learned how to play the screen-and-roll a lot better and how to defend the screen-and-roll. I feel like that's going to really help my game. Just stuff like that. They helped me brush up on a lot of the basics, too, that can make me a better player. They have some real good coaches."
Although a player of his stature would have certainly received one, DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.demarcuscousins.org/) (6-9, 234) said he didn't need an invitation from the UK coaches to attend the camp.
"I kind of sought them out," he said. "I always knew it was a great school with tradition, and they've been one of the schools on my list that I've been thinking about, so I wanted to make sure I got up there and checked out their elite camp. I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn more about the coaches and the school."
In addition to Kentucky, DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.demarcuscousins.org/) has been receiving heavy interest from a list of major programs that includes UAB, Florida, UConn, North Carolina, Duke, Texas, UCLA, LSU and Alabama.

Thanks for posting that Matt. It was a good read:thumbup: Man, imagine him, Patrick, Miller, Liggins, Meeks, and we start to look like an elite team anyways.

OTS didn't go after Lofton because he was a middle of the road prospect that played inconsistently throughout HS. Its not like UNC and Duke etc were recruiting him either, Tenn just lucked itself into a diamond in the rough.

"OTS didn't go after Lofton because he was a middle of the road prospect that played inconsistently throughout HS."
Lofton set the state tournament scoring record when he was a junior. His senior year was one phenomenal performance after another. He had the purest release on his shot of any Kentucky high school player I have ever seen, and I began watching Kentucky HS basketball in 1962. He got mentioned for all-state as a WR in football. Not recruiting him was a major blunder and I said so at the time. It was obvious he was going to be a great shooter in college, because he was already a world-class shooter when he was in high school. Tubby never properly valued the ability to shoot. He recruited teams full of slashers, none of whom (after Prince left) could be counted on to hit a game-winning shot.

We missed on a bunch because we were on a bunch. Rondo never commited anywhere else. Rumor was he was waiting for a UL offer that came too late but we were on him from the start. We also signed Bradley in the fall I believe but am not sure. The fact remains that if we had of missed out on Crawford and Rondo we would have signed Lofton. Just because we did not get him in the Fall has nothing to do with it. We were out there recrutiing 5 star guys and then we signed them.

Well-said, RCS.
I would have loved for UK to have recruited and signed Lofton. However, as you say, instead, we recruited five-star players and successfully signed them, bringing in the top class in the nation. Also, yes, you are right that Bradley had been signed early that year.
In contrast, based on what I've read, both Pitino and Donovan had room for Lofton, but backed out on him. Even UT took him only after another player had changed his mind. UT was LUCKY. No one had realized that Chris Lofton would become the outstanding college player he has become.
All this info has been repeatedly rehashed here. Again, I SO WISH that we had signed Chris Lofton. However, based on the evidence, I cannot be critical of this particular recruiting miss (different from the fact that we did not successfully recruit a top power forward the past few years).
Now, back to the discussion of the recruitment of Mr. Cousins. GO CATS! GO COACH G!

Here's hoping Cousins is serious and we are in a frenzy on Hopson and Wall. Think about this lineup in 2009:
Wall/Vilarino
Meeks/Jasper
Miller/Liggins
Cousins/Stevenson
2Pat/Trent
This considering that Hopson does as expected and jumps after 1 season.
:widcat::widcat: Go CATS!!!

I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like UAB is going to be hard to beat for his services. For the life of me, I will never understand why top-notch kids want to play for Mike Davis. :shrug1:
