Despite recent internet reports to the contrary, University of Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie has yet to contact the family of University Heights Academy standout Scotty Hopson.
from Kentucky New Era Thrusday Paper
According to Jeanette Hopson, Scotty’s mother, neither Hopson nor his family have ever had direct contact with Gillispie, as of 11 a.m. (CST) Thursday.
“He has not contacted me at all,” Jeanette said in a telephone interview this morning. “I’m sure he has more important things to worry about than us right now.”
According to other sources, Gillispie was supposed to come to Hopkinsville to attend a Blazer practice Wednesday night, but, due to unknown reasons, he never showed up.

This kind of confuses. I thought I remember their family taking a visit to UK many months ago and having a long conversation with Gillispie. I remember his mother saying that we had too many people at the position.

Well, I would reckon that is a better source than many I read. I suppose the general consensus is the UT leads for him right now.
But, if Coach did make the call, big IF I guess, I would like to think he can make up ground pretty quickly.

A poster on Scout says this is false, that UHA did not have school on Wednesday and the basketball team did not practice, and therefore there was nothing for Gillispie to come watch.

according to the articles in the Hopkinsville paper, Scotty Hopson is planning to make an official visit to Tennessee. He also says that he is
still " committed to Mississippi State" a day or so after he and his coach
said he was re-opening his recruitment, this after coach Billy Gillispie said
he would not recruit a player comitted to another school.
confused? startled? lost?

Just spoke with Scotty who will be on the show early next week. Asked about UK and here is what he said:
“I havent talked to them but I think my coach has.”
There you go…take it for whatever it is worth.
You would think he would know if BCG actually did talk to his coach wouldn't you?

I don't know if you watched the game the other night, but we definitely are not good enough to be passing on top ten recruits in the country. And why do you see him as another Alex? Patterson waited until the last day last year to sign. Why don't you see him as another Patrick.

Two things:
1. No one but Scotty has walked in his shoes and therefore has NO right to JUDGE him.
2. Ever read the KYNewEra? Not exactly ground breaking journalism.
Getting a little fed up with all the judgment and negative posting. One reason I got away from TCP was due to this type of posting. I know, if I don't like it, don't read it... Actually, I am considering just that scenario and just staying on the General Discussion boards.

– The Scotty Hopson saga is truly bizarre. The “will he or wont he” questiosn as to whether Coach Gillispie will recruit Hopson are beyond unbelievable. Every few days there is a report that UK has stepped up recruiting him and every few days, there is a story from someone that UK hasnt initiated contact. The latest twist comes from Jody Demling who had this conversation with Scotty’s mother (http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/blog.html):
“No, no, no, no, no,” she said. “Coach Gillispie has not called here. Not one time.”
But Jeanette Hopson went on to explain that she has talked to UK assistant coaches on several occasions this week, the first on Monday (the day before UK played at Vanderbilt).
“The bottom line is on Monday night an assistant called me and said Gillispie was going to call me on Tuesday, but there was no call,” the mother said. “Another coach called (Tuesday) afternoon and said he would call before the game and there was no call. Then they called and said he was going to show up at school on Wednesday on way back from the game. But I guess after they got beat so bad, he wanted to get back home. I have seen him three times (this season) and not one time has he come up and said anything. We haven’t had any contact with him.”
I honestly cant figure out where UK stands on this recruitment and to what extent they are serious about Scotty Hopson. We hope to do a recruiting reset this weekend to give an overview on how UK wants to fill the 2008 class, but to be honest it is still somewhat of a mystery. UK casts a wide net, but realizing where their focus is, can be beyond understanding. Whatever is going on behind the scenes, two things are clear. First, the Hopsons love Tennessee and Coach Pearl. Two, they are disappointed in the lack of attention from Kentucky. As for how it plays out….I guess we shall see.

That is a hacked up version of what she said. She said they had talked to an assistant, who told them Coach would call Tuesday. Tuesday came and an assistant called to say Coach would stop by on Wednesday. He did not, and the only thing she could think of was it had something to do with the loss.
That's the whole story as told by Mrs Hopson.

I doubt anyone here knows Scotty personally. If he is trouble, then someone will coach him out of it. This talk may all be BS.
The kid is a 5 star talent. We have a need for 5 star talent. He should be recruited, IMO.
Not sure if he is or isn't, but if there is a way to get him, Gillispie should.

Absolutely. A lot of kids are supposedly "trouble" coming out of high school. More times than not, the people who claim that they are trouble have a hidden agenda or have heard something through the notorious grapevine.
I would take Hopson in a New York minute.

The way I see it, coach G. has no choice but to try and get Hopson to come to UK. Aside from the most important fact being that we need him, the furor over Tubby's not recruiting Lofton still has not died out. If coach G. doesn't at least make an effort to sign Hopson, it'll be the same thing all over again.

If coach G believes that Scotty is a fit for UK (and that he has truly "uncommitted" to Miss. State) he will recruit him. If he believes either of these not to be the case, he will not recruit him. And that's as is it should be. IMO

Agreed. Also, this saga sounds a lot like how our previous staff handled some things. Is this why we've been losing out lately??
