Lighthouse is the obvious person to answer this but anyone else is certainly welcome to chime in.
I've been thinking about this since Ramel got injured in the Georgia game.
I'm not posing this question to point fingers of blame at any official, I'm just trying to find out what the rule is.
In the event that a player goes down and it's obvious that he is badly hurt, I've always wondered why one or more of the officials didn't stop play IMMEDIATELY so he could be attended to? Now I understand the flow of the game and distractions and that it happens so quickly that it's not seen right away. I used to call basketball games for radio and I've seen situations like this more than once.
I guess my question is do the officials have the ability to stop play for an indefinite period in the event a player is seriously injured? It would seem to be the proper thing to do.
