Do any of you remember when Coach Rupp kicked Bob Tallent off the team...my memory has many cobwebs attached but I remember the LHL giving Coach a hard time and the students (I was one) rallying in support of Coach Rupp.

I sure do Terry. I remember it very well.

Only a vague memory to this old Wildcat fan, Terry. I am happy for the details you and Stucat provide here. Team membership rightfully belongs as the coach's prerogative, otherwise I might have been a Wildcat (not even close to reality). I was a UK student though and I am happy for that.
Cliche'- The boss may not always be right, but he is always the boss.
I am certainly happy that coach Rupp established the tradition of UK's basketball program and that many other coaches and players have preserved it. Let us get on with the program and forget the distractions.

Tallent was an individual on a team. Rupp wasn't going to have that attitude or Tallent's mouth that went with it.
I remember a Davidson v. George Washington game in the 69-70 season. DC was in the top ten. Everytime Tallent touched the ball the DC students yelled "Shoot Tallent Shoot". He always obliged.
Don't remember the final score but Ol' Lefty and the DC Wildcats put a major beat down on Mr. Tallent and GW.

Bob Tallent should have listened to what his coaches told him.

Again a great thread and posts Terry and Stucat. I don't mind at all that coach Billy Gillispie is in control now. Whatever likenesses to coaches Rupp or Lancaster is OK with me.

Bob landed on his feet. He transferred to George Washington University, where he set scoring records and even coached--including a stint as head coach--for a time. He coached his brother Pat, who also had a terrific career at GW. Both still live in the DC area--Bob works in Rockville, MD, near where I work. (No, I've never met him.) He also coaches some amateur basketball with his brother.

I was at the famous Texas Western/UK game back in 1966 and know that there were no rebel flags anywhere in Cole Field House. I have the program from that famous game and Bob Tallent got it autographed by coach Rupp and all the Runts and it is my most cherised posession. I went to all of Bob's home games while he was at GWU and one of the assistant coaches there at the time was none other than John Guthrie who went on to become the person in charge of SEC officials.
Like Stucat, I knew the Tallent family personally and Bob made a major mistake in talking back to Rupp during the loss to Tennessee in Knoxville and thus he was told he was no longer a member of the UK squad the next day when he went to practice. I think it was Harry Lancaster that informed Bob of his dismissal from the team, maybe Stucat can clarify that part.
