This has absolutely nothing to do with UK basketball, and I know we have bashed him on here before, but this guy is just a total tool. I have never seen anyone so full of himself, with maybe the exception of Stephan A. Smith (can't stand him either). Every word that comes out of his mouth makes me want to slap him. I just really can't stand the guy. I would ask why ESPN even has him on, but that's exactly why they have him. He's there just to say controversial or down right stupid things to get a rise out of people just like right now. Can anyone stand to watch or listen to this guy?

You guys are forgetting the all-time UK hater, John Feinstein. Now that guy I really can't stand. I'd invite Rome, Seth Davis, or anyone else mentioned on here to Christmas dinner before I'd listen to one second of Feinstein. Also, Rome had Pitino on his show today and it was a really good listen. I'm not in the boat of those that hate Pitino.

I have never, ever heard anyone say that before. I find him to be the most annoying person I have ever seen on TV. He has replaced all knowledge and insight with noise. He is the worst by a long shot IMO. He takes the other side of things to just to do it with absolutely no good reasons to back it up. I cannot even begin to state how much I dislike him. I have never heard him say anything that I did not disagree with or think made him sound like an idiot. Not one thing. That is hard to do.

its widely understood that Rome brings nothing relevant to the conversation on any topic in sports. Unfortunately the ZONE here in Nashville (which is a relatively good local sports talk station) has Rome on around lunch. I tried listening to him for a couple of months but finally had to switch stations. He treats callers like garbage. Most of his show is dedicated to smack talk and incoherent babbling. Basically, he just likes to hear his own voice. As much as I can't stand a lot of the ESPN Radio guys (Cowherd, Kuselias sp?, etc.) Rome takes the cake. He can barely put two coherent thoughts together and his arguments are usually absurd. Let's put it this way...if I wanted to talk sports with someone I would choose one of my cats over him...in fact, my cats may have more to offer. Someone called him a sports version of Howard Stern...that is an injustice to Howard Stern. Regardless of what you think of him, at least Stern is funny and courteous to his callers.

He had Pitino on today. Pitino never mentioned Kentucky. He said that his 3 personal favorite players that he had coached were Mark Jackson,Billy Donavon, and David Padgett.
Pitino should remember this, HE DIDN'T MAKE KENTUCKY, WE MADE HIM.

I have to disagree. When Pitino arrived at KY the program was a shell of what it was prior or has been since. Pitino was the right coach at the right time to bring us back from some of our darkest days. I would suggest it was more a perfect match. Kentucky got what it needed as did Pitino. It just simply can't be all one sided.

Pitino was and is a great Coach and im very thankful for what he did for UK.On the otherhand,Pitino needed Kentucky like we needed him.
Kentucky basketball is and will always be bigger than Rick Pitino. The Pitino era brought two championships.(One for Rick,One for Tubby). We had five before he ever stepped foot in Lexington.Im grateful for what he did but at the same time ,it's a little easier to get to where your going when you have the right resources and support behind you.

I love Rome. I don't think you understand the show if you think he treats callers like garbage. It is part of the schtick. The callers/listeners are the "clones" and Rome is like the headmaster of the "clones." It is almost his job to give them a hard time. If you listen long enough you will find out that he has great morals and values, is a good family man and virtually none better at interviewing guests. He is truly a GREAT interviewer and he gets great guests.
Stern??? He is total trash man. Don't see how wnyone listens to that or likes him over Rome. But just IMO of course.
Out.

Thats a little different than your first statement.

No coach will ever be larger than the program, but at least give Pitino his due. He did the job he was hired to do as probably no other coach could have done. And yes, we provided the stage for him to shine upon and the resources for him to make it happen.

I like Stephen A. and he's a heck of alot better than Bill Walton! I like Wilbon, Stu Scott, Jay Bilas, and Dick Vitale as some of my favorites. The ones I can't stand are Bill Walton, Jim Rome, Tony Reali, and Skip Bayless. Another guy I like is Woody Paige.

To the defense of the other poster, I am the belief that a school like UK, UNC, Duke, etc., enable good coaches to become great coaches. Frankly, there are probably A LOT of coaches at lower levels, that MIGHT be as fundamentally sound as the great names around the country. If given the keys to Camelot, however, they are suddenly able to recruit, and everything falls into place.
With that said, I think the Pitino/UK relationship was mutually beneficial.

You're kidding right? He doesn't get the big-name guests that ESPN Radio does. ESPN gets the A-listers while Rome interviews the B- and C-listers. And all Rome does is stroke the egos of the folks that he's interviewing. What's so great about that?
