They are called contracts. Read the fine print before signing/offering one.

Question. Why would a school sign a coach with dirt on his resume' and not put in a clause to cover themselves in case more dirt shows up?

to my knowledge, they did have a clause. But ever since the O'Brien fiasco at Ohio St., most AD's do not want to take the chance on a wrongful termination suit. 750,000 (only 250,000 by the AD) is a drop in the bucket comapred to a winning lawsuit.

The school itself is only out $200,000. An anonymous donor ponied up the remaining $550,000.

still, a true win, financailly for IU. 200,000 is still less that Sampsons phone bill.

Knight would not pay to get the IU job back. IU would have to come crawling to him.

Note: My 100th post and I use it on an IU topic. Sad :icon_frown:

I think they were discussing it last week on GameDay, if Bob Knight would want to come back to Indiana. I said to myself, if the same guys who fired him were still there then not a chance.

Their getting a lesson in "real life". Many corporation and firms would rather pay someone to "go away" than to spend tons of money defending themselves.

Example- A large company is faced with a 10 Million dollar suit. They can spend 2 million defending themselves and take a chance of losing 12M or they can settle for 2 million and get on with business.

Sorry, but that is the way of the world, and it happens every day.

I thought I heard one of the talking heads say the coach had a no fire clause for breaking NCAA rules:shock: Maybe I am wrong as I have heard so much from so many venues but that was the reason for the suspension talk instead of him being fired?? Either way, they are lucky to make him go away for "only" 200k. The donor of the other 550k must really want the coach gone :icon_redface:
