Just read on the Cats Pause that '09 top 5 prospect Derrick Favors also has us listed as one of his top schools. Can it get any better for the '09 class? I know we don't have a ton of schollys available for '09, but we could have a monster class. That's 4 of the top 10, not to mention Trent who has us on his list and Villarino already committed. Even if we just get 2 or 3 of those top 10's. Go get 'em coach G! Let's cut down some nets!

Scout.com Player Evaluation: Could be a potential franchise college player and beyond. Few have the ability to finish with strength and efficiency that he brings. Quiet kid who goes about his business and takes numbers.

Dang, he is the number one overall prospect according to scout.com. With that news, Kentucky has the three of the top four prospects looking at them in the 09 class.(That's not counting Wall) Makes me very happy to finally be excited over recruiting again. Just wish we had enough open scholarships for all of them.
Great news, land em Billy G!:icon_biggrin:

This makes me, as a (not so) distinguished alumnus, want to give of my money into the basketball scholarship fund so we can get all these guys. I wonder if that is allowed?......

I think I want this guy more than anybody in the 09 class. He is exactly the kind of player we need.

His profile reads a lot like PPat's did. Would love to have him here.

Wow, would I love to land this guy.
We need to land a big recruiting class to get UK back in the National spotlight.

I would love for us to land Mr. Favors. Having said that, I won't get excited until he gives us a commitment and, even then, I would breathe a sigh of relief after his signing on the dotted line.
That's just how recruiting is. Too, unfortunately, through so many years UK has come in as the runner-up, which does absolutely nothing for its roster. I have been there, done that, too many times to get too excited anymore (and I'm one who is easily enthused, actually:icon_mrgreen:). What outstanding rosters we would have had IF ONLY we had brought in half of those second-place finishes!
Fortunately, Coach Gillispie is an outstanding recruiter. Most of all, NO ONE is going to outwork him. :)
Still, though, when commitments had been coming in back in the summer and early fall, we fans--myself included--had gotten all excited, but worried about not having enough scholarships for all the players who were going to want to become Cats next season. Reality is that schoarships are still available for the spring signing period. We are STILL looking for a big man (and a point guard).
Guys' listing us as one of their top schools CAN bring excitement that too quickly changes to disappointment. Of course, may that NOT be the case with Mr. Favors! :) GO CATS! GO COACH G!

Technically depending on how many scholarships are given in 2008, there would be no 2009 schollies to offer. There are currently two scholarships left in 2008 (Coury and Legion) not counting the two already signed by Miller and Liggins. It looks as if Coach is intent on filling those two scholarships and perhaps even another. I have heard speculation about one or two players going on academic rides and a potential transfer or two but nothing solid and I do not understand how the academis scholarship works. For 2009 the only player we would lose through graduation would be Carter and he may be given a redshirt. We already have a commitment in the point guard from Texas (GJV... can't recall last name).
The question then is where will the rides come from to get anyone else? These things have a way of working themselves out but it would be sad to attract the top players but have no rides to give to them.

I don't think that would be very fair to the swimming or golf teams, who probably want to use their scholarships for kids who can actually compete for them. :shrug1::big_grin: Michael Porter was a good enough football player in high school to warrant an offer from USC, I wonder if Coach Brooks would take him on?
