Its in the primetime slot for ESPN. Hes willing to play on sunday, but not on monday? Why when this is such great exposure for the state. Mitch is just being extremely stubborn and eventually its going to end the series.

If ESPN had offered Sunday, he would have rejected that as well. I think it's stupid, we have two teams that need all the National exposure they can get and Mitch wants to play it like a spoiled little boy.

And by the way, I believe Mitch would love nothing more than to end the series. He needs cupcake games to gain four wins so all they have to win in the SEC is two games to get Bowl eligible.

IMO, it makes him look like he's scared of Louisville.

I don't like the series for reasons I will not get into. Unfortunately, for me at least, there is no way the game ends. I would like to see the game permanently moved out of the 1st game of the year slot. You always want to play your best, especially in a rivary game, and you don't always get that the first game of the season.

I agree the reasoning given was ridiculous.

I think there are better reasons not to play that night, but preparing for Norfolk St. isn't one of them. Mitch can be his own worse enemy at times.

I thought the home team got to choose when the game is played. What happened to that agreement?

We finally have an athletic director who is not afraid to stand up and do what is right for our programs no matter what. He is willing to take the heat from the media and opposing fans in order to insure his program is moving in the right direction. It worked for him last year in moving the game to the third game of the year. I am 100% behind him. College football is not for Monday nights!

Barnhart moved the game to the 3rd Saturday last year becasue that is when he wanted it to be played.....well he turned out to be a genius ..we won

UL can have it as the first game as they want ...but PLAY the darn thing on a Saturday when college football is supposed to be played

won't playing on Monday night cut into the tailgaters...most people do have to work on Tuesday morning

The home team decides the day and time if it falls on a weekend (Friday-Sunday). All other days, both schools have to agree.

From what I've gathered, the Monday night proposal was NOT made by Louisville. Louisville and Kentucky have not been in communication (at least as of yesterday) regarding the Monday night game.
It was proposed by ESPN in separate communications to both schools.

I stated in the football forum my likes and dislikes about a Monday game:
The dislike - as a fan, Tuesday morning comes early whether going to the game or hosting / visiting football parties.
The like - national exposure. Thursday thru Sunday is essentially a regional game. Monday night is national.
This slot belonged to Florida State vs. Miami the last 3 or 4 years. Bowden liked it from the added recruiting benefit, but disliked it for the short week. He had stated he'd gladly endure the short week for the Monday nite time slot.

The game will be on saturday if its not monday, unless somehow we get offered the opening night thursday slot (which Barnhart would be absolutly foolish to decline). Theres some kind of triathalon sunday and both cant work. i guess the "big boys" play on saturdays, but it will be on espn classic again or ESPN U, all because of Norfolk State and i guess UK wants no attention so they can sneak up on people again this year and surprise everyone by tearing through the SEC east and finishing... oh wait, nevermind.

People need to ask themselves: if this is such a prime spot, then why is it being offered to UK vs UL? I don't see any big boys lining up to play on it. Miami and Florida State not only took it off this date but changed weeks as well because it didn't help more than it hurt. Monday Night Football was big in the 1970's. Not now. This is not National TV, its cable. Maybe they can be on Lifetime Sunday Afternoon. I am glad to see UL thinks so little of it players to increase the risk of injury by playing without the necessary rest time. Stay Classy Jurich!

You people are going to do and say anything you can to keep it from looking like your AD and coach stepped in a big pile of dog doo on this one. I hate to break it to you, but UK is not a "Big Boy" on the national college football scene. That is exactly why this game needs as much exposure as it can get. I guess most of you forgot that the biggest boys around (the NFL) has been playing Monday Night games for around 30 years and it hasn't hurt their image much.

What would be funny is if ESPN decided to not give UK any air time this season because their Coach and AD act like little girls. Don't they know how weak it makes them look to say they need all the preparation they can get to play Norfolk State? The "Big Boys" wouldn't need all that preparation time for a tiny school like that.

UK should be wanting this game more than UofL. We've won a BCS bowl, while UK has only gone to two in two years and last time made themselves look like a joke for barely beating a depleted FSU team.

Make fun of UofL's past season all you want, we all know that a year like that for UK would be considered successful.

Its just that its social suicide. I mean, we might as well just hang our heads in shame and move to the Big Least. Then maybe we can make one solitary BCS bowl and believe we are a powerhouse....

WHO CARES!!! The game is going to be played and however was going to win will win regardless of when it is played. Barnhart doesn't want to play it Monday for whatever reason there is nothing you can do about it. He doesn't care what your opinion is or mine for that matter. Does it really matter that much if it is played on Monday or Sunday or Saturday? There is more exposure? So another few thousand people get to see it. Lets face it this is UK v UL football no one really cares outside of Kentucky except for the people that have moved out of state. LSU, UF, FSU, Miami (FL), Ohio State, USC, and Tenn have fans EVERYWHERE because they have been good for decades and have acquired bandwagon fans everywhere that watch their games.

Uk fans are content with mediocrity. Ul fans aren't.

"Another few thousand"? I am thinking it would be closer to a few million for a Monday Night Game. Do you realize the lowest number of people watching a NFL game on monday night is 9 million. If we captured 25% of this you are talking over 2 MILLION viewers.

Mediocrity? LOL that is classic. Well you keep talking about what day the game is on and I will focus on the match ups.

By the way how did that play anyone anytime thing work out for you last year?

I still don't see the importance because just because they are watching the game what difference does that make? Does that make them go out and buy a UL t-shirt or do you just want a few more people to think you are good. All that doesn't overshadow the fact that you still don't play anyone and are not going to EVER win a BCS championship. Enjoy your medocrity! Ill enjoy our back to back bowls wins.

We dont want to just "say we played on ESPN", its about exposure and it goes beyond us wanted the media to watch us. It helps with recruiting too. If we play on monday night there is ONE game on, and if you are highly touted football recruit, or any football recruit, you are mostly going to be a fan of football and sit down and watch atleast some of the game. Its been mentioned already the player from minnesota (i believe) that grew up a UofL fa. Now how does that happen? Thats from playing on these games sunday-friday, which we've been doing ever since we were in C-USA.

Ummmm, yeah right. Not only are UK fans not content with mediocrity, but our collective idea of mediocrity is much much higher than anyone else's. (read any thread on the basketball board with the word "Tubby" in it.)

And comparing college to NFL when it comes to ratings is apples and oranges. 9 million people watch Monday Night Football because they usually have two top tier NFL teams playing. You can't just plug any two teams into a timeslot and expect them to have the viewership of a Colts vs. Patriots matchup. Do you think if two 1-AA (or whatever the hell they're called now) teams were given the MNF slot that it would attract more than 2 million viewers? Highly unlikely.

Screw the ratings, who cares? Does it make teams play harder when they know they have a bunch of bandwagon fans who live on the other side of the country?

LOL you can believe that and use it as your stance if you want but I tend to think that it is of minimal use unless. You have one instance where that happened out of the "2 million"extra viewers. If UL beat the national champions and number one team they would have made a DVD out of it as well. They made a DVD out of the Orange Bowl and you were playing a not so great Wake Forest team.

UofL wasn't the #1 team in the Nation though.

Just top 10 at the time they were probably already making them before they figured out you guys suck. I guess they should have held off.

You are stuck on the DVD thing man let it go. It is a stupid point to make.

UK football isn't that great most of the time so they are capitalizing on the year they did play well and beat team that had beaten them years in a row. UL made an orange bowl DVD after beating a crap Wake Forest team that didn't deserve to be there. Atleast our DVD had some good football in it all that bowl game had in it was you beating up on a team far less good than you that year.

It's was a BCS game. Something that UK has never played in, and never will.

I agree it's stupid. So why distribute it? You will NEVER see a DVD for sale from UofL when we beat UK. I think your AD has some kind of inferiority complex. We beat you in basketball this year after three losses in a row in the series. So far, no DVD has been offered from UofL.

You all proclaim us little brother, but act like you are little sister when you win a game.

If UK is in the top ten when you beat them then you never know. It really made no difference who it was just your ranking at the time.

Besides the fact that UK has a HUGE fan base that buys anything with a UK logo on it and UL doesn't have that as much so they aren't going to do that it doesn't make fiscal since.
