I've not heard anything about Matt for a couple of months. Anybody hear any word on whether or not he'll be permitted another year at UK? Sure would be nice.

Was wondering the same.

Shouldn't we know by now?

Won't the coaching staff need to know by 3/29? What would be the point of him missing practice if he's going to be eligible?

Per an article in the H-L this morning, concerning DeWalt, no word yet on McCutchan.

Yes, but article also said we expect answer shortly.

If spring drills commence before UK gets word on him, will Matt have to sit out until they do hear something from the NCAA people? I reckon it wouldn't hurt a seasoned vet like him to miss some work, but I'd like to see the O-line settling in before August.

Yes, and that article says they hope to hear something in a few more days. Since practice starts this Wednesday, surely they will know by then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Matt, besides for this team that needs him.

Scott,

How do you see the line shaking out now? I personally think this is huge. Will Gonzalez be a serviceable backup?

Do I have to answer you twice?

Personally, based on what SHOULD play out, I think its:

Miller
Turituri
McCutchan
Johnson
G. Williams

If everyone performs they way they should that should be the 5. Think the 2 T's, 1G,and C are 100%. Depends on Turituri's rehab on the other G.

Gonz may still be a little too young and physically outmatched right now. Center has to know every assignment because they make the line calls. Tough for a RsFr to do. If something were to happen to MM I would say T. Williams comes in or one of the G's move over and T Williams goes to that spot.

I heard on LEX18 a few days ago that the person in charge of his case died and the NCAA had to assign a new person to his case.

I see a listing that has McCutchan weighing 310. He was, I believe, 265 when he first startedwith UK. I hope todays weight is"good weight" and that he'll be ready when/if he is approved for another year.

I can never understand the slowness of the NCAA officials. How long can it take to read a file detailing the circumstances and the request and compare it to past decisions, etc. You'd think with all the delay excuses they had to re-write history from the dawn of man.

I had heard that too matt, but who knows.

I remember Tommy Cook's decision came in Dec/Jan right after the season.

Yes!!!!!!!

The people at UK that handle this stuff are the best at understanding the rules and putting forth an application!!!

WAY TO GO!!!

CENTER MCCUTCHAN GRANTED EXTRA YEAR FOR NECK INJURY

It took a little longer than expected, but University of Kentucky center Matt McCutchan finally got the good news he had been waiting for yesterday.

woohoo! Welcome back, Matt!

The o-line looks stronger and stronger, and that's going to be the key to win some games next year.

Great news! I see that McCutchan is now listed at 310 lbs; he came in to UK at 265. Now he has the size to play in there with the SEC boys. After a start at Navy, I'm wondering if he has some time to serve in the navy after he graduates. I'm thinking he just might be good enough at 310 (assuming that's good extra pounds and not fat) to play in the NFL.

Since our O-line was going to look improved this season anyhow, getting him and Miller back, with their experience, I'll be most disappointed if we don't get decent pass protection this year---and we all know that can make a world of difference in the passing game no matter who the QB and WR's are.

This is HUGE! We really didn't seem to have a #1 center without Matt - a bunch of #2's, but no clear-cut leader without McCutcheon.

Can we redshirt Gonzalez now?

pretty positive Gonz Redshirted last year
