If we finish the season 2-1 and win 1 SEC tourney game, that's finishing the season 3-1 with wins on the road at USC and over Florida on national TV. I know there's talk that the NCAA committee will consider us not one of the best 65 teams without PP but, if we wins these games "without" him, shouldn't that count for something???
Any thoughts?

The key there is if we win. If we win, I don't see how they can keep us out because we will have proven we can win without him.

Agreed...we will not get in without at least 2 of 3 wins. If we lose 2 of 3 we will need to get to Sunday in the SEC tourny. If we lose 3, we need to win the tourny.

CATS must win two out of three to assure a birth. It will be a tough task but this team has handled adversity all year so I expect to see the boys continue to claw and fight.

I'm sorry, but I have NEVER, NEVER heard of ANY selection committee making a decision on whether or not a school should get into the tournament based on how many players were or were not hurt. All I've ever heard is how many wins they had, how were they playing at the end of the season, SOS, and RPI. Not one time have I heard them say, "Yeah, their record deseves a spot but fill in the blank with the name of player isn't available so we can't give it to them."
If we can manage to go 2-1 or by some miracle win out, I don't see how they can ignore UK. I just don't. And I don't give a hoot what any group of former coaches and players think about it.

BB75, you brought up a good point. Some people mentioned the loss of Kenyon Martin affecting UC's seeding. But actually making the tourney or not is a different story.

However, seeing as the committee saw fit to drop UC from a #1 to a #2 simply because of the loss of Martin, they might also choose to invite another marginal team instead of us because of the loss of Patterson. Or so the logic seems to me. And we are definitely a marginal team even with Patterson.

One thing I had been thinking about is our attendance at the SEC tourney. If that remains strong, we'll still be able to provide the revenue that definitely makes a difference. If our turnout drops some now, then that may have an effect.

The committee does factor in losses. They're looking to pick the 34 best teams. That's their mission statement. Patterson being out pretty clearly puts us out of that 34 if you look at things solely on paper.
On the other hand, we still have two weeks of basketball to show them what we have. I really doubt they'll leave us out if we can get to 12 or 13 wins overall in the league.

If we get to 13 wins (w/o PP), Gillispie should get COTY!:icon_biggrin:

I do remember all the hoo-hah surrounding Kenyon Martin. There was quite a bit of debate about it. Still, using that situation as a guide (for the sake of discussion), UC doesn't have the history in the NCAA's as UK nor do they remotely have the fan following UK does. One thing that we all know is factored in is the ability to put people in the seats, and there are only one or two teams in the country that are even close to us in bringing fans to the tournament. I have to believe that will weigh heavily in our favor if it comes down to that.

Just my humble opinion but I expected our attendance in Atlanta to be down quite a bit before even Pat Pat got hurt...now I'm afraid it is a given.

I said "losses" in the above post, but of course I meant "injuries."
ANd I doubt we get to 12 or 13 either, but it's not like we'll be playing the Lakers and Bulls next week. Two beatable teams, even without Patterson.
