Word up here is that the former Dookie is a big horse fan, already made plans to move to Lex Vegas, and has contacted Coach Smith about the possibility of being an assistant-could he replace Rigot? Could this be the change we need in our recruiting? Does this get the cats closer to an AmEx national recruiting commercial?
HOLY SMOKE. I tell you this much if he is an assistant at UK we would probably get some love from ESPN. I don't care who comes to UK if they can keep it clean and help us win.

I'm so anti-Dook that it's hard for me to want one of their ex's. But if Hurley could get the team to playing a little more like he did---effort and attitude-wise---he'd be a fantastic addition for Tubby. We seriously need his kind of intensity, enthusiasm, etc. among our guys who only play that way for a few minutes each game--if at all. I can't recall a player who played harder and scrapped with the best any more than Hurley did.
I simply can't imagine any way that Tubby would leave even if he and his family do get upset with the "pressure" that Kentuckians put on them. He's got every advantage that a top college coach could ask for right where he is. And I believe that Tubby is smart enough to know that the NBA is much more likely to be a graveyard for a college coach than not. He's ours for the duration.

They are talking about an assistant position, not head coaching.

:thumbupAmen to that! This sounds like a possibly spectacular change that might save Tubby and get us back up to where we should be. It is at least a step in the right direction if nothing more.

I hope not. I remember a few years back I went to the tournament in St. Louis(when Tay put up 41) and I actually got to play one on one with Hurley on the street at a cingular booth. I don't think I could stomach a former dookie anywhere near our team.

I have heard a lot of talk about this, but do not know the validity of this. I do not live in Kentucky so my only source is the internet. How accurate do you think it is? I for one would love to have Bobby on our staff, even though he is a Duke graduate. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride if its for the better of the program.
I should revise, I saw where "here" for you is in NY. But still, same questions.
I have a feeling someone just threw it out there since Hurley likes horses and from there it has snowballed into a full blown 'rumor'. It could happen but I seriously doubt it. I say we try to hire one of Roy Williams current or former assistants. PF and centers sure seem to like his offense and he is killing us in recruiting. If you can't beat em, join em I guess.

So would his day job be the horse thing and he'd be moonlighting as a coach....and at UK of all places? How goofy.
I would have to see Bobby on the bench during a game in Rupp with my own eyes before I would even consider it remotely true. Until then, I'll assume he's waiting for a spot on the Coach K bench.

If he is into horse racing I can tell you from experience that four horses is a full time job unless he is going to turn them over to somebody else. I had four standardbreds that are a lot easier to manage than thoroughbreds. I just don't see how he can be two places at the same time.
There will always be a problem that will require his attention and it will be a distraction. Don't see it happening.

i'm going ahead and say this will be a conflict of interests for me.... a duke player on our bench? seems like coach k sabotage to me
