That my friends, was a gallant effort. I am not one for moral victories, but with all that these kids have gone through (forget the sad sack stories from CBS about what UT has gone through this week), they not only hung in there, they could have won this thing.

But UT wins with a little help from their friends in stripes.

- Perry Stevenson was HUGE. HUGE.
- Bradley was everywhere and did everything he could.
- Jasper with big shots
- Harris with big shots
- An offense that flowed better because more than one person was moving to the basket.

It hurt not having JC out there more, but these guys played their collective butts off. And the big WEINER Pearl and the UT fans had their butts puckered all day.

What a great effort and although a loss, a game they can take a ton of positives from.

Ditto, bob. I don't know that I've ever been more proud of a UK team in my life. To have everything thrown at them as they have this season and to lose arguably your most important player, and then to come out and very nearly upset the number one team in the country. WOW! It makes me proud to be a UK fan.

This game bodes well, not only for the rest of the season but for the future of UK basketball.

GO CATS!

No excuses. No Moral victory. But I couldn't be any more proud of these kids. And Kudos to coach for having a plan that allowed UK to have a shot at the end. But the kids are the ones that execuded it. They certainly didn't execute it to perfection, and that's where heart comes into play.

Grit...Heart....and determination. Plus, an excellent game plan. The NCAA committee has to look at this bunch and say they are deserving, as long as we keep taking care of business. My hats off to all the team and coaches today. By the way, is there a worse offical in the SEC than Doug Shows????

Plus, an excellent game plan.

A GREAT gameplan put in by Gillispie and executed extremely well by the players. Pearl looked flustered in his home arena while Gillispie looked calm and in control.

Thought we had UT scouted about as well as you could scout them.

Actually I think there was a bit of sarcasm in there as the announce crew referred to him as Ramon Smith during the ballgame. Either way, Harris gets big props too for D...also career high in points if I heard correctly!

It's hard to believe, but a few more free throws made, which we usually do, and a couple of phantom offensive fouls on Bradley not being called, we could have won this thing.

I've said before that this team was rapidly becoming one of my favorites. Well, they made it today!! This team will always have a special place in my heart. Go CATS - I love this team.

To answer your question...no, there isn't. Shows is absolutely horrible. He referees w/ a chip on his shoulder and he shows it. He makes my blood boil. Prob. why the ACC suspended him and got rid of him. Why the SEC took him I'll never know.

But what a great effort by the Cats today. I haven't been more proud of the Cats in a long long time. Now lets finish this reg. season off right w/ 2 BIG WINS!

Shows is a rotten ref, doesn't matter whose games he's calling.

Great effort by the cats today, great game plan by coach. I thought Jaspers flop chenged the momentum, but we played well enought to beat the supposed #1 team on their home court.

I was tuning out the announcers because they didn't have anything to say except how stressful a week that Tennessee had. They were just plain poor so I quit listening to them even though the sound was not down.

Thanks, for the head's up. Didn't realize the comment was in jest. :shrug1: :icon_biggrin:

That's the best thing about it. UT had 2 chances to destroy UK this season and failed both times. Just goes to show ya that even the best UT team struggles with UK in a transition year.

Hats off to CBG and the guys.

I am totally speechless and hoarse. I could not possibly be more proud of our team than I am today. These kids showed the heart of a lion and the toughness of a cornered alley cat. They are family to one another and have become a reflection of their coach as some tough a$$es. Regardless of what anyone says or thinks, we have a tremdous group of players and one helluva basketball coach. We've still got unfinished business this year, but my word, these other folks better look out beginning next year. When you get talented kids to play with heart and passion anything is possible.
I'll refer to this bunch from now on as the "MagnifiCats"!!!

Go Cats, and finish this season out right.

Well I did for about two hours and was exhausted. But after the effort they put into this game I suppose there isn't a reason why I can't stand up and cheer again. LOL

This was an incredible effort by team and coach. This game will stay on my favorites list of tremendous sporting efforts. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this team gut it out and thoroughly enjoyed watching the coach lead them through a phenomenal effort.

Well my modem was on & off all afternoon so I wasn't able to participate in the game thread but wow. I have to admit that I did not expect much today. I thought UT would be fired up & angry after the Vandy loss and I didn't expect the Cats to be ready for such a challenge after the punch to the gut of Patterson's injury.

But once again I was proved wrong by this amazing team, and really today was accomplished without much from Joe thanks to the refs. So many people played big and I'm just so proud of them all.

They played with discipline: running the clock down, controlling the tempo; they played with grit and determination: after getting down 15 it would have been real easy to hang their heads and accept defeat. But they didn't and if ever a team has taken on the persona of the coach it's this team.

Way to go!

Senior night is going to be crazy emotional for Joe, Ramel and all of us I think after all they've been through.

Same here as far as the effort of our team is concerned. What a determined bunch of young men. With Patterson out I feared the worst but they came extremely close to beating Tennessee on their home court. I could tell that Bruce Pearl was on the verge of turning a "whiter shade of pale" as the Cats thundered back from being around 20 points down at the beginning of the game. I think we can win the next two games and I believe we will do very well in the SEC tournament and maybe even win it all. Hopefully we will be in the Big Dance and I predict that we will do well even though Patterson won't be out on the court to help us. Go Cats!!!

That's a wonderful, tough, gritty bunch of Cats. I am above being proud of them. They know what the name on the front of that shirt means and they showed it today.

I started out the game thinking "I just hope we don't get blown out". I ended up crying for the win that just barely slipped away. I could feel it on the ends of my fingertips and I know the team could also.

It is becoming more and more like the Wildcats of old.

Coach Gillispie has been saying practices have been better with the roster fuller. The coach and his staff coached and the Wildcats obviously listened and performed. I am proud of all of them, especially Ramon Harris and Perry Stevenson, but none should be left out of being praised for the game.

On still another thread I must say HOW PROUD I am of our Cats' performance against UT. The toughness and heart they showed still touches my own, not-so-tough heart. Yes, of course, it still makes me sick that our Cats were not justly rewarded with a victory.

KUDOS to the UK players and their coach, PERIOD. Yes, we Cat fans don't normally celebrate moral victories, but this performance from our Cats deserves ALL the accolades we fans give it.

Similar to what I said when our football Cats suffered a heartbreaking loss to UT this past fall, I say that such a loss as this one, in a way, makes the fans LOVE a team all the more. How many of you, like me, thought back to the Unforgettables and the '92 loss to Duke! Oh, no, we don't need a loss like that one to love them, and I surely wish we weren't having this discussion. Yet, I surely believe any player reading our board yesterday and today could FEEL THE LOVE more than ever.

We thank you, Cats and Coach Gillispie, for the performance, even though you barely fell short of a victory. Because of your gritty, courageous performance facing adversity, Cats, particularly you seniors, your memory is further engraved in our hearts. Too, the GREAT part is that, unlike the situation for the Unforgettables, your year is far from finished. :) You have won our hearts, and we will continue to pull for you with all our hearts each and every game. :) GO CATS! BEAT THOSE GAMECOCKS!
