View Full Version : the officiating...
Honestly, the worst called game I've seen this season. How many touch fouls did TN get and how many times was a Cat mugged with no call? There were probably five calls that even Raftery pointed out the refs missed.

It was bad, but it was on the road. Got to expect those. SEC officiating is the worse I have seen actually of all the conferences I watch. Very inconsistent.
But you have to play through those things and we did. We could have won this game in spite of the zebras, but the odds were against us from the beginning. It would have been nice to have a more even handed game called.

Definitely, lot of obvious bad calls.
There was the no call on a Bradley three near the end that hurt. That's not counting all the ones not called on 95% Bradley's drives.
Plus, did that one tip late in the game by TENN look like offensive interference.

and the shot that preceded looked like he lowered his shoulder. This type of no call was happening all game long.

Lofton stepped on the line near the end as well.

It was definately not called the same on both ends. It usually isn't at home. As someone else said, it isn't IF they call it different, its how you handle it.

If it's the play I'm thinking of, he DID lower his shoulder and drove it right into our player. Also, down on our end of the court didn't a UT player catch the ball out of bounds and throw it back in to his own player? :shrug1:
LOTS of walks not called on both teams.

UT's 400 pound guy slams Jasper in the lane, no charge.....we breathe on Chris Lofton, it's almost a technical.
The 5 seconds closely guarded today was absolutely terrible. They would start the count with a guy 4-6 feet away.
When Bill Raftery says a call is questionable, you know it is. Anthony Jordan makes terrible calls all the time (including the questionable shot clock violation/foul on Ramel) and makes a majority of them from way out of position.

I, too, surely thought I saw some bad calls. One I would like to see again is the charge call against Joe. That was one of the ones Rafferty had questioned, and it was one that was so costly to Joe and the Cats, as Joe had to spend so much time on the bench. Like others, I just think SEC officiating is so down.

Chris Lofton was flat-out protected today.

Yes he was.
Ramel and Joe got the worst of it, imo.

I've gotten used to the fact that there's going to bad calls in every game. missed calls too.
But it frustrates when so many of them are bail-out calls.
Or when they flat out refuse to give a player a call, like today with Bradley.
The Jasper blocking call was frustrating, because that was the first one all day that had went against the defensive player, I believe.

Lofton is the SEC's golden boy. For what reason, I can't figure.

What about the timeout given to UT just after Chism double-dribble after he had picked up his dribble outside the arc?

This is sort of a what came first, the chicken or the egg situation. It wasn't a double dribble until he touched it after dropping it the second time, but the TO may have been called before he touched it. Very close call.

That was not a double dribble. I thought it was too, but went back and watched the film. He didn't dribble until the ugly one, but he did walk. I think that's why it looked so ugly.

Lofton stepped on the line near the end as well.I'm lucky to have an HD DVR and I went back and watched it. He clearly went back-court and the ref was right there. Tyler Smith had offensive goal-tending inside the 2 minute mark as well. The CBS camera's showed on the replay that the ball was still in the cylinder. Both calls were tough, tough breaks for a team that just played their hearts out.
I don't throw around the proud word very often but I can't think of a group of Wildcats that's ever made me prouder than these kids today.

Plus Bradley obviously walked right before he hit the big 3 with about 6 minutes to play. No call there - not sure how they missed it.
And the phantom offensive call on Tennessee after Porter had deflected the ball out of bounds? We didn't see it live because CBS was showing a replay, but there was NO CONTACT on anyone.
