Kemp or Jasper?

Have seen neither of them play. So this is with a grain of salt.

Jasper seems to be more of a defender, so you know Tubby is after him for that reason. Kemp is described as more of a floor general, a heady and in-control player.

Most who have seen both these kids say Jasper is the better player, although their rankings (according to Rivals) are very similar. I have to say that I like the story I read about Kemp a couple of months ago. The word "mature" was used a few times. His high school coach says that he demands a lot out of his teammates - seems to be pretty vocal. I think that's a good attribute to have as a freshman point guard, and I wish Rajon would have been more vocal at times last year.

That said, I think there's an outside chance we get them both.

I like Jasper for his height advantage and verstality. I think he would be a great fit for Tubby's system and give opposing team's star PG/SG (if they have one) fits.

Interesting thread about this on the Rivals board, Buddah. Those that have seen Christopher play are debating that he is a "pure shooter."

In terms of the "pure shooter" debate - I truly think "pure shooters" are few and far between. Tubby clearly has adopted a recruiting strategy that looks to defenders and athletes - usually thick in the torso and powerful - in the backcourt. But really, if you look back over Pitino's career here, how many pure shooters did he recruit? How many pure shooters are there returning in college basketball this year?

Pitino recruited Delk, of course. Mills, but he was a walk-on. Shepherd wasn't a pure shooter, and neither was Padgett, although both could shoot. Who else? Dale Brown, maybe. Anthony Epps could knock it down but did not take many shots. Pelphrey and Farmer probably were, but they weren't Pitino recruits. Mashburn was, clearly. Mercer probably was, though he was pure from about 17 feet in. I can't think of many more. So that's three in a span of eight years. (I admit that this is debatable. Heck, you get up so many shots under Pitino that even average shooters, like Gimel Martinez, became formidable outside shooters.)

In college basketball, I also can't think of many. Redick, Justin Gray, Taquan Dean, Chris Lofton. That's just off the top of my head. (I'm sure there are more.)

My point is the pure shooter is a tricky proposition because he doesn't step into a program very often. If I were recruiting, I would recruit defense, which is much more of a teachable skill, and height, and speed. I would recruit offensive skill over shooting skill. In short, I would recruit overall talent rather than specific talent. This is why I think Rajon Rondo is infinitely more important to how a team fares in a given season than, say, Gerry McNamara.

This one is not easy.

I think though, you have to again look at the WHOLE picture and not just kemp vs jasper or even christopher although sorry Fat chinese man, he wont get an offer unless both DJ and WK say No. (or one other scenario - Rondo or someone else leaves early).

If you get Kemp you can almost write off Mayo completely. Same type player and both would "demand" playing time (not thatTHEY would demand but their playing ability would demand playing time). If you still have Rondo Bradley and Crawford wherewould Mayo go if Kemp comes?

I am not saying Mayo Will come if Kemp doesnt but it opens a WIDE door. Rondo will be gone by the time mayo would come. That leaves Bradley, Crawford (if he is still here) and who ever signs.

So be cautious about the answer. It isnt always one or the other. There is much more to it than that.

Why do you think I am mentioning Mayo. It is becoming more and more apparent that he is interested in UK. If he is ... why disturb that?

Mensa Greg hoover talking smack, get a real job.... pure shooters are few and far betweeen, and given that you have been back and forth on this issue of whether or not tubby can recruit, your opinion has never held that much with me or anyone else.. looks like your back on the bandwagon now, that tubby has a master plan, hope to god he does.

When was the last time UK had a few pure shooters on the same team, its been a while. I am sure Mensa Hoover will let me and everyone else know, when that time is/was. :D

Joneslab, the video i have seen and read says christopher is a pure shooter, the people who say he isn't , haven't seen the same video that i and many others have... Mensa Hoover has even stated that he is a pure shooter, haven't you gregory.

Kemp is visiting Memphis this weekend. He will get all the attention from the coaching staff as the other recruit cancelled and verbaled to Washington. He will visit UK next weekend and said he will probably wait a week or so and then decide.

Well at least you got the IQ right. Sorry yours is half of mine but we all cant be as smart as I am... now can we. God had only so much to give. Oh wait... that fat chinese guy had to delve it out. Apparently your ying was out of whack with your yang. Maybe Zen Cohen can help...

Christopher isnt a 100% dead nuts shooter. He is the best shooter of the 3 were are still with. but he can slash also. And he his percentage isnt any better than Josh Carrier's was in HS>.. so it isnt that easy Buddah.

I just have to know... who do you consider UK's best shooter? and why.
