It is a winters day here like I haven't seen in several years. There is a good ten inches of snow on my deck and it is beautiful. The best thing about a day like today is the beautiful quiet that comes with large snowfalls such as this. Its as if all man made sounds have been muted and trickling water, wind in the branches, and the soft crunch of footsteps takes centerplace on the audio track. Needless to say it also seems so very, very clean. Just a remarkable and pleasant event of the natural world if you don't have to fight through it to a job. That daily scramble can sure cause us to miss some of the best moments in life.

Hope your in a place where you can enjoy this white beauty.

:icon_sad: I remember that. Roll back 40 years or so back in Kentucky, getting my sled ready to fly down the hill and then taking in the beautiful solitude of Houston creek. There's nothing like it.

Well I just came in from shoveling off the deck and then a path to my laundry room and garage where I keep my beverages and meat. It is around thirty degrees which makes for a kind snow. It is not slushy and heavy but it is not so cold as to be powdery, great for removal, fun winter sports, and cold dots on the nose. A few passes down the hill and the sledding will be brisk.

When I came in I sat down with my coffee and watched as the birds started investigating the deck after my shoveling. If you ever get a chance to see a bluebird and a cardinal on the same branch together against the white snow it is a post card moment.

I have a cheery fire going and it keeps me toasty providing for a secure and warm ambiance this day. I sat here at my keyboard; enjoy the fire and coffee in a cabin I helped my father build when I was a very young man.

My father and mother loved nature and they built this cabin so that it is nested in the trees high above the water which gives you the sensation of being up among the birds of the forest. One of my contributions to this spot was to replace all the jalousie windows with highly efficient picture windows that add to the feeling of being immersed in this beautiful day.

Seems like a great day to bake some bread.

This is just one of God's many ways of reminding us that no human has or ever will come close to duplicating his majestic works.

Hiked 4 miles at Bernheim Forest yesterday morning on the hike and bike trail north of Hwy 245 and adjacent to the creek and old railroad. Got some excellent photos especially of the latter 2 miles or so of the trail, as it was still unspoilerd. I was the first one to venture beyond half a mile. I looped back on the railroad tracks between Clermont and Bardstown, which at one time was utilized by My Old Kentucky Dinner Train.

Excellent morning overall, clear blue sky and crisp, 23° at about 7:40 am or so.
