Tired of the Tubby bashing and dont even mean to bring it up anymore, but is anyone else gonna enjoy watching Tubby "The Hero" Smith vs Billy "Bad choice" Donovan play in the NIT.

I bet CBS and ESPN and Dicky Vitale dont bring up the fact of Tubby being run off or Billy D turning us down anymore!

Good job Cats and we are glad to have you Billy G!

Preseason expectations had Minnesota finishing 10th or 11th in the Big Ten. Instead, Tubby Smith took a bunch of barely recruited, underperforming players and turned them into a middle-of-the-conference squad.

As a native Minnesotan and Gopher fan, am I "gonna enjoy watching Tubby 'The Hero' Smith" in the NIT? Well....yes, actually. Better than not watching the Dan Monson-coached squads, who never made the post-season.

BTW: As a rule, I try not to take pleasure in the shortcomings of others.

Personally I am glad Billy D turned us down.

Me too. I came very close to not wanting to follow the basketball team if he became coach. It would have been extremely sad if our proud program turned into a bunch of showboating baby whiners...

Personally I would love to see Minnesota wipe the floor with Florida in the NIT.

Im not trying to be a smartalich..I really dont understand what you are trying to say. You are tired of the Tubby bashing so you start a thread to bash him? Since Donovan turned us down you think he is the "bad choice." To answer the parts I get, no I wont enjoy watching Minnesota or Florida play in the NIT because I am a Kentucky fan. I dont go out of my way to watch Minnesota play, and the only times I watch Florida is when it is against or affects us. We do agree on the last line at least!!

Walt, Sir, best of luck to your team. Too, you share a most valid point about the preseason expectations of your team. Also, while a Kentuckian and a Wildcat fan, rather than a native Minnesotan and Gopher fan, FWIW, I happen to share your own tendency not to "take pleasure in the shortcomings of others," or not to put others down, as I call it.

On another note, does the Big Ten now play a postseason tourney? Also, unfortunately, I know that it's not impossible for the Gators to win the SEC Tourney and thus get a berth in the Big Dance. Further, while UK certainly SHOULD be safely in the Big Dance, we have not yet received the invitation. I'm just throwing those facts out there, although I, too, am both relieved and thrilled that it APPEARS that our Cats will make it! GO CATS! GO COACH G!

One of the things that really killed me was the fact that the fan base was STILL so divided, even after the coaching change.

Coach G has done much to heal the wounds of the last few years.

It HAS to be time to wish coach Smith and UM luck in their endeavors, no matter what they are, save playing the Cats (or whatever other team YOU follow first).

Much has been put to rest the second half of this season. Wouldn't it be best if those who wanted change simply swallowed the "I told you so's"? Wouldn't it be best if those that didn't want change dropped that ball and get behind Coach G?

We have much bigger fish to fry than to worry about what happens in UM.

Thank heavens for lowered expectations. UM has beaten exactly 2 teams this whole season that have winning records. Enjoy it while it lasts, tubby's first year is his best.

Exactly. The division of the fanbase is why I get frustrated over some of the threads started over big wins and big losses. Early in the season after some losses people would come on here and start dumb threads. On the other side of the coin though after big wins people would come on here calling out those who made the threads after the big losses. I dont know how that cannot be seen as hypocrisy. I was told I was wrong over and over though so oh well.

I'm happy you'll get to watch your Gophers in post-season. I haven't followed them closely, but it seems that Tubby has done well with them...you got yourselves a good coach and we did as well...everybody wins.

Tubby has done a good job this season. I think we can all agree he was a pretty good coach, if not a good recruiter. Me, I'm done even thinking about Tubby. We moved on, and upgraded, in my mind. BCG is on the verge of building something special. What Tubby does doesn't concern me at all. Now, Florida in the NIT is funny, I don't care who you are.

All that matters to me right now is this UK team being the best they can be. As far as Billy and Tubby, they don't need to prove anything to anyone. Florida and Minnesota basketball couldn't be in better shape than they are today. Only a dim-wit would argue that fact.
