One of the most sought-after girls' basketball players in state history is nearing her college decision and is expected to choose the University of Kentucky.
Christian County's Arnika Brown, her family and her coach are supposed to meet with UK Coach Mickie DeMoss on Sept. 16, and an announcement is expected shortly thereafter.
The 6-foot-2 forward could not be reached for comment, but her coach at Christian County, Don Dillard, said he expects her choice will be UK.
"Kentucky's clearly the front-runner right now," he said. "We just want to kind of see if it's the right fit for her. Right now, it's Kentucky's to lose. ... That's basically what we're looking at. There's not a commitment yet, but I think we're close."
Brown's Christian County teammate, Lydia Watkins, already has committed to play for the Cats.
Brown, who attracted interest from powerful programs such as Tennessee and Connecticut, has closed off visits to everyone but Kentucky, Dillard said.
