....expand to 68 teams. There has been a lot of talk of expansion and teams left out. The best thing would be to go to 68 teams and have 4 play-in games instead of 1. That would give the lower tier schools a chance to win a game before they play the #1. This would also take a little pressure off those two to three teams that always seem to have a good arguement about why they should have been selected.

Not a perfect solution.. but reasonable.

Solid proposal. The bottom eight schools would get a chance to play-in. Set up the Tuesday in Dayton to be an all-day affair instead of anything else. Or you could have them at each of the four sites where they are scheduled to meet the #1, perhaps.

However, I never want to see the day when its the norm that we put sub-.500 power conferences into the mix. I would rather see more mid-majors in but that is just me.

I heard this a couple of years ago and found it interesting:

Have play in games for at large teams for the 8 and 9 seed spots, where BCS conference at large teams typically are placed. That would increase the field to 72 teams and give us 8 games on the Tuesday before the tourney.

Little different idea, but would make more room for teams on the bubble.

There are a lot of really interesting ideas out there about expanding the
tournament.
But really, unless you take the ultimate Bobby Knight tactic and get rid
of the post season tournaments and just seed and invite every school,
there are always going to be teams on the outside looking in that have a
legitimate question about why they aren't invited.

When the tourney was at 32, it was school 33.
If it opened up to 128, it would be school 139.

I agree with the latter.

But really, I wish there weren't any play-in games at all. I think that forces two teams to qualify their appearance, when they shouldn't have to.

NOOOOOO! Dump #65 and do 64. Don't mess with success!

Fair idea, but then teams 69-72 would just complain and the expansion to 68 would make no progress
