Anybody else already planning this trip? We'd like to make a week out of it, and would probably like to stay near/on a beach.

I'm sure there are people on here who are familiar with the area. Any "hidden treasures" (i.e. decent and cheap :icon_biggrin:) as far as lodging is concerned?

Have been thinking the same thing. Was going to start looking for airline rates. WCN will surely have a block of rooms again.

If I'm not mistaken, they usually go on sale either late December or early January. (Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I know that is when we usually buy them...)

Better hope there's not a hurricane or something like that.

Is to skip this event next year. Not letting Kentucky fans in a Arena with empty seats should never happen.

I wouldn't do that to the team. Plus, it's a lot of fun, aside from the unusual circumstances this year.

The Don Cesar Hotel is an incredible place but is a little on the expensive side. There are a lot of good restaurants at St Pete Beach though, most aren't very expensive.

Do. You'll never regret it. (Unless, of course, there is some unfortunate weather event.)

We're starting to look at renting a condo on the beach in the Indian Rocks area. 25-30 miles from the Arena, but that's not too bad considering you just have to make the drive twice a day for four days.

There are some "small" complexes there (15-20 units). It'd be something if we could fill one up with all WCNers.:icon_lol:

Be warned however, it's good, clean fun but highly addictive...I just got back and I can't wait till next year.

I have a cousin that lives in the Tampa/St Pete area. She rehabs condos then turns them around to sell. Might give her a call down the road and see what she recommends and/or can do for us. The most fun is when our group is staying in the same place. I'm sure Dan and Co. will get something worked out.

Oh it is sooooooo addictive. POEKLM took me to my first one. And this was the first one I missed in 5 years. Even with the storm, I have yet to say, "glad I didn't go". Quite the contrary. Come on down TBCF.

Maybe she can rehab some condos, and let us "test" them for a week. You know, gotta be sure that they're ready. I feel confident we could provide that service. I wouldn't even charge anything! :icon_lol:

I could tell you a good bit about this place. I don't have very fond memories of it due to having followed a girl there for a year after college and having it not work out. :icon_evil:

I'm more of a Atlantic Ocean guy than the Gulf, but you obviously don't have much choice when your in the Tampa area. My ex had a condo in Clearwater which is a pretty cool place. Not a lot happening as far as the "night life" (retirement community) but it's still nice. My buddies and I stayed in Treasure Island last year. That place is pretty cool. St. Pete beach is also nice. Lots to do at night if that's your thing. All these beaches are right next to each other and it wouldn't be more than a 30 minute commute to the arena.

When your in Tampa you should definitely check out Channelside. It has a really cool bowling alley and some nice restaurants. You may hear about Ybor City also. That place is kind of sketchy. It's gone down hill over the years.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else I can tell you. (But please ask!) Tampa isn't a very big city but it's FULL of people. It is the place of the original Hooters and has one of the most nationally known strip clubs in the country. But I doubt those will be on your itinerary. :icon_lol:

I will more than likely be down in Tampa for the tournament. Actually, I know I will be. So if you need a guide count me in!

Boycotting only means less Wildcat fans in the building to cheer on our team...the fact I did not get into Georgia Tech has no bearing on my return to the SEC tournament...see ya'll in St. Pete.:thumbup:
