Sounds like the man hasn't changed much.
I wonder if he talked to anyone at Illinois about the recruiting violations before he submitted the to the NCAA.

If Illinois was cheating, they were cheating. Apparently, that wasn't their first time getting caught.
People want a guy who doesn't cheat. Pearl seems like a guy who doesn't cheat. I don't get why people love to hate this guy. He took UT from an also ran to a serious contender. It's not like he took them from a Championship program to an afterthought on the national scene.

The only reason I don't like Pearl is because he coaches UT, other than that, he seems like a good guy. He may be a bit arrogant, but most coaches that are successful are, so you can't hold that against him.

Easy....its because he dons the attire of a used car salesman while showcasing about as much couth as a West Virginia lottery ticket winner.

I got to know Pearl pretty well when he was at USI. Hung out with him a little at the Roca Bar in Evansville, In. One of my best friends played for him at USI and became D-2 POY under Pearl's tuteledge.
He is a good guy. Fun to be around and his players love him. Only negative I see is that he's coaching 10-E-C.

Chris Bowles was good
Pearl was VERY POPULAR here

I get the feeling that Pearl would be popular anywhere he goes.
Very energetic and charismatic and a great recruiter. Still not completely sold on his in-game coaching, however. I mean, South Carolina RAN with them and still came a basket short of beating them.

i don't 'love' to hate him...i just do. He is arrogant and so are his players. He whines about having to play 2 games in 4 days. He whines about how tough things are for him. He claimed when he took the UT job he wanted to be the most hated coach in the SEC. I am just giving him what he wants.

I thought it came out that the recruit just lied to him to get Pearl off the phone and quit badgering him? Basically he just taunted the recruit into finally saying what he want while he had tapes rolling? I don't know definitely of course, just what I thought I remembered reading.

You are correct!! My husband is an Illinois grad and Pearl is hated at our house.

Well, unfortunately, being a UK alum and having suffered through the Ray Mears act...well...I just think it's required that I hate any Tennessee coach.
Naw...I don't actually "hate" him - but it is one SEC school I can NEVER root for in the NCAA. Or anytime else.
Oh yeah - and I do think he's a clown.

I like the guy and hope he does well. Making UT more competitive helps the SEC from a national viewpoint and it isn't like we aren't going to win against him on a regular basis.
While I suspect he would go to IU if offered, I have no problem with him staying at Indiana.

A hug is not cheating when your hugging your wife or a 250lb. woman, or a grandma.
hugging a 25 year old Coed, definately has implications (and consequences)

Isn't he divorced or, at least, seperated from his wife?
