To beat our coach, you first get a young team who can't understand his toughness and "means" to an end. Secondly, you get a couple of seniors who just do not enjoy his early season practices in their senior year. Thirdly, injuries seek to bring the coach down, although you don't hear him using that as an excuse. Fourthly, although a few make it back from injuries, such as Joe Crawford and Derrick Jasper, and Meeks tries valiantly to make it back, the coach loses the top inside performer and freshman, Patrick Patterson, for the remainder of the season. The Rupp Arena crowds coach Gillispie loves support him through an 8-0 SEC season in the place, but then, just prior to the SEC Tournament first game for the Cats, the traveling UK fans of Catlanta are largely taken away by a tornado hitting at the Georgia Dome area. The stumbling blocks have been a little much. Another straw dropped and the Cats lost an extremely close game to Georgia in spite of the lack of the normal Catlanta crowd.
Don't anybody tell me this coach isn't tough. He has the Catastrophic Cats playing hard, playing smart, and playing together. And he says "Bring it on" to the NCAA competition in the Big League Tournament.
What all of this means is- don't mess with coach Billy Gillispie.
If not now, it will be soon.
Go Cats!
Go Coach Gillispie!
