I should be returning home soon, and I would like to take my wife to the Lexington area -- she is a horse fanatic and I've near been to that part of KY, for I was stuck in the western KY coal region growing up. Does anyone know of any cool places to take someone who is a horse lover around that area? I've tried searching on the web, but my horse IQ is extremely low; I have no idea what most of these places are about. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Kentucky Horse Park. Plan on spending an entire day. She will be getting "up close and personal" with a bunch of horses. It's a great place.

I would schedule a tour of Claiborne farm, just outside of Paris. I don't know if they will do a personal tour these days, because the last time I went it was arranged by someone who knows the Hancock family. But you should contact the farm, because I believe they may.

Claiborne has a website with contact information.
This is where Secretariat stood at stud until his death, and he's buried there in the cemetary along with other Triple Crown winners and great horses of the past. This is a different kind of experience than the Horse Park...no gift shop, etc., so you might want to include both.

If you're coming in April take in a day at Keeneland.....if you're a first timer I'd recommend going on Wed-Fri, when it's not so crowded as Sat-Sun....
