Please note the description of this forum as it appears in the main listing:
The Rivalry & Ribbing Forum is the place for anyone to discuss upcoming games with opposing fans or if you'd like to add your two cents to the year-long, love/hate-fest that defines any great rivalry. Good natured ribbing is acceptable - anything beyond that is NOT.

There is a very real reason we changed the name of this forum from "Smack" to "Rivalry and Ribbing". "Good natured" is the key phrase there so please take that to heart when posting in this forum.

With that being said, this IS -for all intents and purposes - a smack forum. We have this forum specifically so the smack talk does not spill over into and infect the other forums. When you come into this forum you should expect things to be a little bit different. This forum is moderated a bit more loosely than some of the others but the basic rules still apply. If the moderators decide that whatthey see goes too far beyond "good natured" then they will put a stop to it.

What I am trying to say is that there needs to be a balance here. Do not come into this forum unless you have a thick skin and are prepared to deal with SOME statements that would not be tolerated on the main forum boards. Shots WILL be taken by both sides to try to get under the skin of their rivals. If you don't want to be offended then I recommend staying out of this forum (and you may want to avoid the political forum as well). At the same time, do not expect an all out "anything goes" atmosphere. If you have a doubt whether you should say it or not - don't. Using your common sense can go a very long way towards keeping this forum civil.

Let meemphasizea couple of things: First: Cursing will not be tolerated. We have posters on this board right now that are as young as 13 years old. This is not just an adult board, this is a board for all people of all ages to come discuss and debate a wide range of topics. Second: If you feel the need to use racial slurs to make your point, perhaps you do not HAVE a point.

If anyone has any questions or comments feel free to post them here.

so we will protect 13 year olds from simpsonesque vocabulary but expose them freely to racial, bigoted, chauvanistic comments while generally reinforcing the 'deep south' stereotype? 13 year olds are allowed in these forums as well, right? just trying to clarify.

i've had some pretty good discussions on this site, particularly with guys like lighthouse, but i won't be a part of the old deep south. i prefer to talk with well cultured, well informed, open minded folks who have some class and can defend their thoughts and views without resorting to racism and bigotry. these problems still plague the entire country (and world for that matter) while the south remains the 'poster boy' and i will not be a part of reinforcing that.

since i live in a 'football town', i never really get to have an in-depth basketball conversation. i enjoyed that about this site but i can't in good conscience talk in the front room about b-ball knowing that in the backrooms (rivalry-ribbing, political) these things are allowed.

i've also stayed purposefully away from any conversations that involve my own spiritual views. i've looked in on discussions about evolution vs. the bible etc. etc. but have never replied because my own personal spiritual stance is this.

Contenteditby DAN: I'm not sure why you thought this was the place to post your views about the Bible. FWIW I did modify my original post to include a reference to usage of racial slurs.

that's it. i'm done, although that is far from being a complete list of things in the bible that make me say 'what the .....!!". as for the wildcat nation site.... i'll miss the good conversation but i will not condone, even passively, the 'back room' or the 'drunk all week as long as i'm sober on sunday' mentality. to paraphrase bob mould....i wish the best but all the rest is mine......see ya!

scathendo, with all due respect..the "rivalry/smack" board may not be the best place for you to post. but this site has many other areas where you may feel more at home. a good, honest discussion will probably not be the norm on the rivalry board.

i look at this board as a bunch of people drinking beer, in a bar, and arguing sports..its definitely not productive, but i find it quite entertaining...to each his own.

see you around.

ccathendo. I read your post with great interest. Allow me to say a couple of things in response. You said "Life is a gift," and I agree. You also said, "God is a mystery," please allow me to say, "God is Real."

I for one believe the Bible is The Word of God, and is infallible. Please remember, a lot of your bible quotes are from the Old Testament, which was written before Jesus, and everyone was under The Law. The New Testament was written after Jesus, and now weare under Grace. We can learn a lot from the Old Testament, but everything changed with Jesus victory over death.

Thank you for you post. You are Special and He has a Special plan for you.

Original post modified slightly.

Here is the added information: If you feel the need to use racial slurs to make your point, perhaps you do not HAVE a point.

Thanks for posting this, Dan.

The only thing I would suggest adding to it is when it comes to cursing, it should include getting creative by using symbols (like dollar signs, for instance) to replace certain letters to try and get around the rule. As if the readers don't have enough sense to figure out what is being said.
