View Full Version : Tournament Champions = Kiss of Death
I think if you are top seed and win your tourney it is fine, but if you make a great run, like 'Cuse, I don't think it carries over and often you have nothing left in the tank. UK won the SEC tourney in 98 and won it all, so you just never know.

Iowa burned me big time. I had them in the regional finals losing to Duke. OUCH!
Syracuse should be ashamed. I guess winning the Big East was reward enough. The Gerry McNamara era is over. Long live the McNamara.

Unless you are supposed to win it, it really doesn't mean anything if you do, and unless you lose before the finals, it doesn't mean much if you don't (assuming you are in a major multi-bid conference like the SEC). On the other hand, if you are one of those teams like Syracuse who have no shot of getting into the tourney except by winning the conference tourney and you do so somehow in miraculous fashion, then I say, job well done, and you are likely one and done in the NCAAs. One of the few first round upsets that I got right was the Orange going down. I've just seen this too many times. Mediocre teams can rise to the occassion now and again, but they can't sustain it, because, after all, they are mediocre teams.

Whether you win or lose your conference tourney has absolutely nothing to do with your success or lack thereof in the NCAA Tournament. :rolleyes:Iowa lost because they are not as good as advertised and because Alford sucks. Syracuse lost because their star, McNamara, spent most of the time on the bench with a groin injury.
