Louisville sophomore Derrick Caracter's college career in nearing its disappointing conclusion.
The once-heralded prep star said he has made up his mind and will forgo his final two seasons at Louisville and turn pro after the season.
"I'm definitely not coming back," Caracter said.
The 6-foot-8 forward from New Jersey, who was considered on par with Greg Oden, has battled weight problems and off-court issues while at Louisville. He has been suspended numerous times in his two seasons — including earlier this season for breaking curfew.
"The last three years have been difficult," Caracter said on Wednesday. "Not playing my senior year in high school to the weight issues my freshman year. But I've got to stay positive, that things are going to get better."
Caracter started 12 games this season — with the majority coming after senior big man David Padgett suffered a knee injury. His minutes have dwindled since Padgett returned in January and he averaged 7.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in the two tournament games.
Caracter, who has a reputation of being lazy both on and off the court, is averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds this season.

Could he not waited till loueville season had ended? Why give the distraction.

Admittedly, I don't watch a lot of UL, but I just don't see it. He may have tons of talent, but he has not shown it on a consistant basis. I see this something like the Morris case after his freshman year. More power to him.

From what I hear from a UL insider, it's not a distraction but a done deal most of the season. It's been clear all along he would be done after this year.

Yes everyone pretty much knew this was the last season for him. Is it a smart move? No, but how many kids make stupid moves now days?
More power to him. I don't see it happening in the NBA, maybe overseas or something.
Had to edit that. I meant to say "NO" it's not smart. See, I just did something stupid...

EDIT: Viewed subsequent posts that stated the same - was a foregone conclusion early on that Caracter was leaving.

Pitino has been saying it all year so no UofL fan is suprised by this. For Caracter, he feels that a year in the NBDL will be more beneficial to him than another year in college.

No surprise here. Now let's see about Twill and E-5.Every game UL wins in the tourney makes it more likely they jump.
I didn't think it was true until I seen it on insidetheville.
I'm just wondering whether Clark or Williams will test NBA waters.

It certainly would make more sense for them to go rather than Caracter.
Someone should tell Caracter that in the pros there isn't an assistant coach that will make sure you're where you need to be at all times.

You have your "Posse" to do that for you.

I read that AJ Stewart was having trouble getting to class. How many times did he get suspended?

Of course he READ that. We have a secret board where we keep track of all things UK and store pictures. Every few months we forward the whole thing to the NCAA.

Do you know the definition of OCD? If you did I don't think you would use that. If TCB posted it ten times in a row you might be right.

I don't think I have ever heard of Stewart having trouble getting to class. Now team meetings is a different story.

Where did you read he was having trouble going to class? I haven't heard anything about that. He feel asleep in that meeting or whatever but that is all that has been public.

This is relevant to what I said how? AJ Stewart's not entertaining the notion that he'll enter this year's draft, plus I have a feeling that he's paid for any crime he may have committed. There were some games where we could have used him and he never got off the bench. Our coach just doesn't feel the need to hold a press conference every time a player blows his nose.
In pro sports as in real life there's not going to be someone there holding your hand every step of the way. If Caracter needs an assistant coach to make sure he gets to practice and team meetings and such, then why should he think he's ready for the next level when nobody will be there to wipe his bottom and hold his hand?
