View Full Version : Sharing some news on recruits

News on other boards about Liggins is not very promising at this time.
Leonard Washington, who a lot of us were really trying to get info on earlier, doen't seen to be as high on the wish list as we had thought.
No information on Flemings at this time. Kind of faded away.
Harrelson seems to have been released and will have the opportunity to
be recruited.
Sutton is an interesting thought.
This is a down time so it isn't easy to pick up on any info around the
boards.
I'm sure CBG is looking at options all 'round. Mid-April we'll know something one way or another.

You do know that these "boards" are just places for people to pretend that they have solid information... I live here in town, and really just stick to "official" announcements.. Liggins will not be here in my opinion.. If they thought he would be, the JUCO Point Guard wouldn't be in the mix...

Liggins isn't a pure point guard. I think they're after point guards because they want somebody who's solely a point. (Really, it could say more about GJ than Deandre.) Liggins is versatile enough to move between three positions.
And I know nothin' about nothin'. 100% of my info comes from reading message boards. But I'm a subscriber at a premium site, and I read WCN daily, and I've never read anything that would suggest Liggins won't be here.

I dont pretend to know much either (however I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) but wasnt Liggins trying to get a "learning disablility" waiver that would help him qualify? Anyone know the status of how that went?
These previous posts seem to be optimistic that he will do what needs to be done and make it...

This Sutton Kid sounds to be a good one...he has been talking about playing next to Patterson so you know he wants to be here...6'10 215, and Also Harrelson which is 6'9 281.....I would take both guys...between Jasper and Liggins and Porter and Galloway, we will have our point man for this yr, then next yr we already got GJ coming in then K.C. the yr after we need big men..and these want to be here...I say bring them on.

Do you mean that GJ projects more as a 2 than a 1? Because I've not heard anything that suggests that he has changed his mind on us. And he's coming along nicely as a player, the only junior on the AAA all state team in Texas is a pretty high honor.

I've just seen some reports that GJ may not end up at UK. Granted, I saw these comments months ago (though many of his high school reports linked above are mixed; he had a great end to the season, but almost everyone mentions his struggles early on), but there have been questions about whether or not he's UK material.

He is UK material...and He will be in Blue...He gained 1 1/2inches and 10pds in muscle...now 6 1 1/2 and 168pds....very fast and A very good ball player...He said Gillespie didnt get to see a game but did see 6 practices this yr and he is doing Everything Gillespie and coaches are askin to do

Great to hear.
I would love to see GJ have a good summer showing. Obviously the star system isn't the end-all of a player's worth, but you can read through the comments above and see some pretty worrying things if you're a UK fan -- and those were all written in the past year.

Liggins only needs one class, I think he'll be here. I think most folks are panicking because we heard that there was some chance he might not qualify, and in the last few months we haven't heard a definitive "he'll 100% qualify" in response.
I haven't seen anything suggesting GJ won't make it here, outside of posters on other boards making things up or using wishful thinking because he's only a 3 star recruit, waaahhh. And one foxsports article written by someone who had seen him play one time.
Don't trust what you read on message boards!

He is still a 3 star right now but He was the only Junior chosen to the Texas All State team which is loaded...His AAU team is Team Texas with K.C. Ross Miller and Renardo Sydney and Derrick Favors...now just tell me Those guys wont make him better....not including helping us get Derrick Favors

I tend to agree with DCWildcat in that a lot of the rumblings you hear are whining from people who believe we shouldn't touch anyone under 5 stars with a 10 ft pole.
I also saw in a set of rankings someone posted a week or so ago that he is ranked way higher than Jon Hood, a kid some people are absolutely drooling over. :shrug1:

some people panic way too much on this site.that being said i believe liggins will qualify and we will be back to the old pre-tubby style of winning championships and getting superstar players on a regular basis.....who's with me??????

Liggins still has work to do to qualify but not out of the question.
I still think we end up with at least 2 more recruits. My preferences are Fleming and Harrelson. Would not shock me to get 3 more.
I still think we lose at least one player off of the current roster. Others will have to go academics.
WE NEED SHOOTERS AND SCORERS from the guard position and underneath in 08. Need them badly. BG said as much many times. I just happen to agree.

My feelings as well.............I'd really like to see us add Ater Majok or Paul McCoy in there somewhere. From what I have seen and read, they are immediate impact High-level D1 players.

Not positive but I thought I read somewhere that Majok was going to Syracuse??

Majok was probably headed to Syracuse but they are probabkly going to have to stop recruiting him because of a violation.
I would like to pick up Majok, Flemings and Harrellson.

It's not Syracuse its UCONN that is in the lead as of now..........if Thabeet returns, I think we got a real good shot, if goes to the NBA I think Majok goes to UCONN.
Calhoun did mention having a commitment from a 6'9 refugee from Sudan, which could be a violation if the NCAA sees fit.
I think if Thabeet stays, and Majok has fun while in the Bluegrass at the DBC then he's ours.
I wouldn't mind Flemming or Harrelson either.

PJ, I'm really counting on Darius Miller and UK fans who can go to the game in Freedom Hall to help Coach Gillispie get Majok on the Wildcat roster. Oh, no, I don't mean anything illegal on UK fans' part, just wearing blue and giving Majok lots of loud cheers.

Since I can not make the Derby Classic.... Majok, we UK fans would love to have you here. You would almost immediately be part of our frontcourt rotation!!! The cheers for you in Rupp will be loud enough for family Australia to hear.

What is the scoop on Liggins..why is he not qualifying..is it because of test scores?
I'll just relay what I've read on other boards. Deandre has been classified
as having a learning disability of a type that will allow such things as
extra time on the SATs as well as having the questions read to him and
being allowed to give verbal answers instead of written (one of my sons
had a similar disability).
From what I've read (and agreed, a lot of what you pick up on the web is even less than speculation) the question of qualifying does not ride solely
on SAT scores or core GPA, but can be a combination of the two. So a
poor GPA can be offset somewhat by a high SAT score, and vice-versa.
As has been said, DeAndre is not a "non-qualifier" as of today, but it could
be a 50/50 thing if he does qualify. Quite a few players across the country fall into the broad bracket of 'well, he might use some help in these areas..'
The question about getting a variance because of the learning disability is
kind of misleading. He will still have to know the answers to the questions
but will have an opportunity to express the answers differently.
In short, not completely bleak, but still not a shoo-in.
I will be there, in all blue. I might even make a shirt that will try and convince Majok and McCoy to come to UK.
Liggins will be fine, he's very close to qualifying now.

Billoliver your explanation of Liggins is pretty much how I understand it as well. Becoming eligibile is a combination of the GPA and SAT/ACT. I think the GPA may also have to be a certain level in core requirements.
With respect to Flemings, I read on another board comments that he would probably not be eligible this Fall due to not having enough hours of college credit (Associates Degree plus 9 hours). Only one person made this post but the guy seemed to be confident in his information.

I think you guys have well explained how eligibility works. I'm surely sorry to read what you have read about Flemings, though, KyCat. That does not sound good. As most think, we do need a real scorer to commit.
Those who go to the Derby Classic, again, please be LOUD when Miller, Liggins, Majok, McCoy, and Sutton are introduced and do anything positive on the court. :icon_biggrin:

Would Flemings be allowed to complete some internet courses from another school, while going to summer school? Can he double dip? I'm thinking that BCG probably knows something or he wouldn't be still recruiting him. If he is still recruiting him. Who knows what goes on with recruiting anymore? BCG is Tight-lipped.

I would be tight lipped too, if I was trying to avoid the "help" of a million or so "volunteer recruiting coordinators" :icon_lol::icon_lol:

Just got this: Majok to visit UK on the 12th and 13th. Also check out this video on him working out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgttPaJhapo
We really love what he is doing for Australia and the Sudanese community. I've seen him play many times and he is very skilled for a 6'10" player. We hope he makes it big time. GO DINKAS
