If Bill Self had a weight for not reaching a Final Four what does Howland have after reaching three straight with a Runner Up trophy and two whiffs?

I have to admit I wish it was us who made it to the last 3 Final 4's. Once again, a team that averages less than 78 pts just cant win it all. How long has it been?

One more year and the Buffalo Bills chants can start :icon_mrgreen:

Three Final Fours is still a heck of an accomplishment. Congrats to them on a great season.

As much as I hate to agree with Rick Pitino, I do agree with what he said
a few years ago..
getting to the Final Four today is just as special as winning it all 15 years ago. When you get down to two games, anything, anything at all can happen. You can be the best team, but a couple of bad breaks, a bad
shooting night or a missed free throw could cost you the whole thing.

Great season for UCLA.

I think one thing that was shown this game is that Love may not be as ready for the NBA as some thought. Not saying his skills lack, but the guy's conditioning is non-existent. I mean if he was struggling to run today, what's he gonna do when the speed is twice that night in and night out.

Again, the kid is going to be good, but he better start running some extra laps.

Yeah, where is my boy advocating that three Final Fours are better than two National Championships?

The graphic after the game said UCLA - three FF's NO TITLES.

Final Fours are special years. I would NEVER say that UCLA three years are a bad thing - BUT, gimme the two titles anyday.

I'm here. I still think what Howland has done is more impressive from a coaching standpoint than what Donovan did.

I would rather have two championship banners on the ceiling, though.

That's why I phrased the thread ambiguously!

I 've precious children who have graduated from California, UCLA, Stanford ,
and , the mighty Davidson.
That said, the Bruins coming home empty-handed bothers me not at all.

I do wonder how many Final Fours KY has played in order to win our , count 'em , 7 national championships.
I'm thinking we have come back to Lexington trophy-less, at least half a dozen times.

Surely someone has this stat readily available?

UK's all-time record in the final four is 17-6.

BTW... I believe that's the highest final four winning percentage... and it's not even close.

i don't see how anybody could be satisfied with just reaching the F-4 Ben is a choker and if ucla wants championships then they should fire ben and get a real coach

Another crazy and outlandish statement that we've seen come across these boards lately.

Although I'm not a very big fan of Howland, he is a really good coach. He recruits very well and has UCLA near the top of the upper echelon programs. He has seen a monkey jump on his back for getting so close to a title and failing 3 times in a row.

But you can not convince me that Ben Howland should be fired as the UCLA head basketball coach.

i could be wrong but i doubt ucla is happy to just make the f-4. If he is still there in a couple years i will be surprised

It took John Wooden 15 years to win a championship. Between the day he retired and the day Howland took over, UCLA made 3 final fours. Howland has now made 3 final fours in 5 years as the UCLA coach. He'll be there as long as he wants.

If he's fireable right now, every coach in the country is very fireable.

Exactly, under the above poster's understanding of "good coaching" every coach in America would be under the chopping block.
