To each his own, I guess, but there's no way in the world. There's a better chance that Scott Rigot would be named coach than Bob Knight.
Knight hasn't recruited for twenty-five years. We just got rid of a guy who wouldn't recruit full force, and we're going to bring another one back in -- and this one's got (massive) issues?
No way.

Knight's number is up, and he knows it. That's why he quit. No kids nowadays want to play for an abusive jerk, and I'm glad, because I couldn't support him. Now that he's gone over to the other side, I'm just living for the day some coach demeans and humiliates him for the first question he asks.

I don't question anybody's loyalties. I just think some people have some truly bizarre opinions. And, you know, some of this stuff may not be honest. I feel sometimes like folks jump on the site and start pulling strings madly to satisfy their own unease about situations, in this case the coaching rumors. It's like anonymous therapy. Same thing happens after losses: you get a lot of otherwise rational people screaming and yelling and pouting for three days. Then it's over and the storm passes.
In the best times, WCN is a place where a person can go for really intelligent discussion. In the worst times, message boards become sandboxes for people's anxiety.

I agree. As I stated in another thread, BCG is still our coach. Why are we looking for his replacement? I realize it's the off-season, but jeez. Folks, keep in mind that Seth Davis and "Hoops" Weiss got this crap started. Neither is a friend to UK. And generally speaking, neither knows where they are at a large portion of the time. IIRC, Davis said Ramel Bradley needed to step it in the second half of the game at UGA, when Bradley had knocked out in the early minutes of the first half. And "Hoops" is about as senile as they come. Later, on the news, I expect to see people hurling themselves from tall buildings in downtown Lexington. :icon_rolleyes:

I'd be more concerned if Seth Davis had a "source" that told him Gillispie was staying...:icon_rolleyes::icon_lol::icon_rolleyes:
Seth Davis is a moron. He is definitely not Bob Woodward, so we should stop treating him as if he knows what he's talking about.
People, just because some of us might forsake everything we hold dear for the opportunity to make $3.5 million a year doesn't mean our coach (who already makes far more money than most of us) would want to leave the team he's building after only one year on the job to go chasing after oil money in the "comfort zone" of the Big 12. (My theory is that if he was that in love with the Big 12 he would never have left A&M in the first place)
There's a reason why we already have some recruits committed for the '09 & '10 seasons. Why would he recruit those kids if he didn't intend on seeing them set foot on the campus?
UFWildcat

Why would he recruit those kids if he didn't intend on seeing them set foot on the campus?
Because it happens all the time.
The truth is we cannot rest until Gillispie officially says no. Maybe he's using this (as any smart business man would do) as leverage to get a raise from UK. Maybe he's just playing the game. He knows in his heart what he really wants to do but doesn't want to close all his options. He is in complete control right now. This all sounds so familiar to the situation as last year with Donovan. Donovan had ample opportunity to close the door on UK but didn't.
Either way...speculation is going to continue to run amuck until he officially says no. (or yes :icon_evil:)

To leave after only one year is simply ridiculous though, especially to take a step down in prestige.

Why Coach G will not leave:
Like the previous post says, to leave after one year is ridiculous. What kind of reputation does that leave with a coach? His staying power is 1 - 3 years and I would think recruits would note that.
Coach G is from Texas. Would he really go to a school in Oklahoma? If this offer was from a school in Texas I'd be nervous.
Coach G hasn't accomplished anything at UK yet. Although he had short tenures at other schools, he also improved those programs before he left.
And lastly, I really truly think he is happy in Kentucky and truly values the tradition of Kentucky basketball.

I agree that ubby was a great coach, but he was in dire need of help on the O side of the ball. Billy Donovan was tired of getting whipped by Tubby and went and hired a D coach. The next season, UF went from being a farce to a force. The last two years under Tubby, UK would have greatly benefitted form getting a great O assistant. The Cats had become to predictable and did not have the ability to come from behind, if they got down in a big game.
A head coach doesn't have to know it all or do it all. But, his job is to recognize any weaknesses and try to shore them up. I still believe that if Tubby had brought in new blood on his staff, before his last two seasons, he would not only still be the coach at UK, but his teams would have had more success in the tourney.
Does anyone remember when Brooks, at first, refused to fire his OC, after three lackluster seasons? He made a statement that he stood by his assistant and that if they wanted him gone it would be a package deal. After a few days, Brooks fired his OC and annointed Joker as the play caller.
Imho, that was the turning point for Kentucky football. Is it any coincidence, that Tubby has a whole new staff, at Minnisota?

tubby was not a good CEO.....he was incapable of bringing in "good" assistants. That was why he left. He was basically being told what type of assistant coaches, and given a list of candidates, is my speculation. And he bucked at it, again, is my speculation. If you look at his current staff in Minn. I don't see any head turners, or a big change in his quality of asst. coaches. He was not cut out for big time programs. Great man, good coach. But not the right fit for a major elite program.

The only places Knight will go, IMO, is to a rebuilding school. He could go in there and with his name alone, bring in a few recruits. He could, depending on what school it is, go somewhere and do like Tubby did this year- make the team a contender in their conference again, win 17,18 games and make the team fight for a spot in the NCAAs and that team would be happy.
