FINALLY!! We have our hotel info. We will be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott, Vanderbilt/West End. Our rate is $139 per night (a discount from their normal room rates)The other hotels we have talked with run from $179 - $249 per night. This hotel is close to the GEC and close to where the Cats are staying, with shuttle service available. Lots of restaurants close by and you get me as a guide!!:lol:
Below is the hotel info, website, address and reservation phione #.

Courtyard by Marriott Vanderbilt/West End
1901 West End Avenue
Nashville, Tn 37203
1-800-245-1959 for reservations
Just ask for the WildcatNation rate when you call. Very important that you book only the rooms that you plan on keeping as we are limited to 50 initial rooms. Please dont book rooms you will have to cancel, since we will ultimately be responsible for the block of rooms we reserve. If all goes well we will add more rooms after these are gone, but it is important to only book what you are sure you will use.
Special thanks to Sam Kegley for helping me get this hotel and rate. We were highly recommended by the Renaissance Hotel in Atlanta.

Awesome Rick! Thanks for your hard work on this very important matter.
Quick question -- will there be a deposit that has to be made or pay when you arrive? Just curious because the Renassaince didnt make you put a deposit down.

Tour complete, awaiting contract to review and sign. Should be able to make reservations around 5:00pm today. After the initail block of 50 rooms the price will go up to $139, which is still $40-$110 cheaper than the other hotels.
Verynice place with beautiful rooms. Over 20 places to eat and drink within a block and a half. I will post a list of places nearby after the contract is signed.

Hoophead, I'm not sure I can wait until March. We need a "Pre-SEC Tournament" get together at a game somewhere!
What games are you and Elvis going to make this year? Thinking of coming down to Gainesville, or shall I say, could I convince you two to come down here for that game? ;)
I think it isn't safe for me to go there unattended without a posse. Anyone else care to make that trek with me?

Iremember that well girfriend. It was the only UK Football game I've ever been able to attend. And it wasn't Mississippi State. It was THE LSU Footballgame where Kentucky had the game in hand and lost in the last 2 minutes. You know the game, the players were dumping coolers on the coach before the game was over.
As for basketball, now you might understand why nowI hung out with the fellas at the SEC Tournament. There were no incidents though.Rarely is anyone that brave to trash talk ourplayers when they are completelysurrounded by the Big Blue Nation everywhere they go.
And don't forget what all happened to mewhen I went I drove up to South Bend alone to see Uk play Notre Dame and ended upin the booster section with some unruleyfans. I've tried to learn from these experiences. ;)
I'm up for the Gainesville trip, but only with some good oleblue-clad company. :)

Hey girl, sorry about that. Guess thegame we went to wasn't that memorable but the company was.I know we went with Miss Kitty to a game.
But now that I think about it,I may have been at the LSU game with a girlfriendfrom work that lives in Lexington. But I know we went to a football game together, must have merged the great company with the more memorable game.I am positive about being at the LSUgame,it wasa tragedy you do not forget. So, I have actually made two whole Kentucky football games in my lifetime.
And yes dear Tom, of course you are right. Tailgates will do that to a person. ;)

I recommend calling UGA Athletic Dept for tickets. I ordered mine from there earlier this yr and I am waiting to hear back from them. They told me I was pretty much guaranteed the tix since no one from UGA goes. I hope she is right. I'm gonna give them a call later this week to check the status.
Last yr was my first trip to the SEC Tourney with Kuttawa Cat and we had a blast.

I moved stuff over from the whiskey thread.
Mike,
I love that clip...still get Goose bumps when I see it. What a great way to start the New Year! I will check with Dave, but I'll bet that he's having trouble also.
I am taking Michael as well as Rebecca this year, indoctrinating another generation of non-Kentucky native fans. We have two rooms with WCN at the Courtyard, but I am sure a certain blonde (this week) cutey will take one.
On that topic, Curly called last night to say the Eagle (Rare) had landed. She was crossing the Florida line with the precious cargo in tow...and the whiskey as well as her daughter...
I am with Carrie...Time to start an SEC countdown...
And I think it is time to get a little entertainment committee together for decorations, table set ups, (AND THE TELEVISION, RICK!!!!)chairs, bar rules...(everyone remember you may NOT bring anything other than WCN sanctioned bourbon into the conference room. This was the result of serious hard ball negotiation, wherein we had to prove the hotel couldn't get what we drink (thank, Four Roses Single barrel!!) All beer must be purchased through the hotel, and the same goes for stinky scotch...I think we should drop another 25cents onto the cost of a beer for a WCN general fund, or something like Caywood's scholarship)

I tried to do a little research on how the row numbers go at Gaylord. If you look in the back of your booklet of tickets you will see theydo it very arse backwards. It appears in the lower bowl, they start in double letters (ex., Row MM) and go to single letters. I have Sec. 112, row MM and the Row of seats in this section start at Row CC and make their way up to like Row N. Just very odd they do it this way.
Anybody else notice this? I hope this is correct and not a misprint because I'll have some wonderful seats very close.

I think you'll be pleased, Jon.
If you compare all the seating charts.... It looks to me like the "permanant" lower arena seats run A-P from the bottom to the top. On the setups with portable standards (basketball; hockey, etc) they start at AA at the bottom and run BB, CC, DD, etc on the way up until they hit the permanant seats at Row A.
By my calculations... you're 13 rows off the floor.

You're a lucky man. I'm currently bidding on three booklets on eBay in section 305, row Q. I was hoping to get up close, but it looks like "close" this year is going to = "big bucks.":thumbdown
I'm sort of torn between paying the money for good seats - because I love good seats - and going cheaper and far away. There's a good possibility the Cats aren't going to be around too long for my family and me to enjoy those good seats this year.

I'm only bidding on them because that's about our price range and I need three. I don't think they'll stay at that price, though, because there are four days left. They'll probably be up to $1500+ by Monday evening. :?
I really thought I'd be able to get three books for around $12- or $1300. I'm not sure if it's Gaylord that is causing the prices to be so high (and I've also checked around on the various ticket sites around the web, and they're all WAY high), or if it's just early. If I knew for a fact that I could get some lowers in my price range, I'd wait until mid-February to buy. But with the slim pickings and wild prices I've seen around the web, I'm beginning to worry.
I absolutely LOVE the court level at the SEC Tournament. We were about 13 rows away last year and it was awesome. I guess a person could always get some tickets from the losing team and move down, but then you're talking about $100 extra, probably.
Tough call. :?

Hmmm. Does anybody have any information on the Wildhorse Saloon? I went to their website, but it didn't have what I was looking for. Sounds like a place for adults. Surely, for a pep rally, they'll allow kids? My nephew is looking more forward to the pep rally than anything else. I think he has a crush on the cheerleaders.
EDIT: Forgot to ask, are the times for the pep rally eastern or central?

The Wildhorse Saloon is just fine for kids. It's a good sized restaraunt/bar/small concert venue and seems to be a logical choice for the rally due to the size of the UK following. When TNN was still up and running you would see them broadcasting from the Wildhorse Saloon all the time. It's somewhat of a touristy spot as well.
The alumni website states is just steps away from GEC....last time I was in Nasville, it was more than steps away. Don't get me wrong, it's not a long walk but its a few blocks. It's located down on the river.

Midtown Liquor & Wine Superstore is only about 3 or 4 blocks. They have one of the largest selections of Bourbons in Nashville. Next door there is a party store with a huge selection of beers from around the world. Also they have a large walk-in humidor stocked with all your favorite cigars. Sorry Terry, pre-rolled only! Or maybe the Hustler Store 2 doors down will have what you want.:lol:We will try to put together a list of some of the restaurants and bars that are a short walk from the hotel. I may be a little biased b/c this is my favorite event of the weekend but I def think it is worth it. By then, the cheerleaders and band will be arriving and people will be riding high. We normally stay until the last minute to walk over to the game and get in our seats.

As of now, it's supposed to be warm but rainy on Thursday. (Actually, they're predicting rain all weekend, but I don't really trust metereologists.) Hopefully it's nice and we can walk. I'm looking forward to getting outside a bit this weekend.
This will be the first time my wife and I will have EVER been away from our son for more than one night. Please God don't rain! :nada:

Just bring an umbrella. I don't melt in a little warm rain. For your sake I hope it doesn't rain. You and your wife will have a ball with this gang. CAUTION: SEC Tourneys are Habit forming. Just ask me ;)
