Rivals analyst was asked who the 10 best defensive players in the 08 class were, and Liggins made the top 10

Actually I think that we will be OK on scoring next year. Meeks was projected to be our leading scorer last year and he will be back "Healthy".
Patterson will control the inside.
The third scorer would be nice but this could come by committee.
Harris showed signs of being a slasher.
Stevenson became a man when PP went down and I believe could be a 8-10 point 6-8 Reb person.
Jasper proved that he can shoot when open. It looked like he had to think about each jumper (Are my feet set, elbow in, shoulder square then shoot).
Summer reps will allow this to come natural. Also it looked like he was beginning to trust his knee and that will allow for him to drive/dish a little more. This could add 2-4 points a game to people like Stevenson and Coury.
Also don't be surprised if AJ really shines. He has the talent, is a scorer and he was beginning to "get it" as Coach would say.
Also by getting a top defensive player we could score a lot off of turnovers.

Are you never satisfied? JK :icon_lol:
We need scoring but I think the fact that Liggins is a good defender boads well for his getting on the court at UK under BCG.

I believe his defense and passing skills are what made a good catch.. The scoring will be a bonus... We have all seen the film, and this kid can feed the post big time...

No doubt about it. Now Mr. Liggins, PLEASE get qualified. :)

I agree poodoo it has been a long wait he needs to get er done. What happens if he does not qualify by the end of spring signing period? Also I am willing to go on record UK will average more points next year than this. Just a gut feeling.

If he has not qualified by the end of the spring signing period, we would likely, in my opinion, sign an additional player for his spot, at least if someone the staff really wants chooses UK. The staff could then put someone on a Pell grant or let a player pay his own way for the sake of the team, or whatever, if Liggins were to qualify at a later date. Staffs are usually able to work out things in that regard. I truly believe we fans don't need to speculate on player possibilities of such, though, because of respect for their privacy. Again, how I hope Liggins qualifies and is able to play THIS coming season. :)

Liggins is actually one player that I'm excited about having come to UK...the same way I was excited about Patterson last year. Liggins is a complete player....with good basketball skills and great court vision and instincts. He's the type that will make other players around him better. And Liggins does have an offensive game....he has range on a nice looking jumpshot...he just has to become more consistent with it.
Galloway, OTOH....is one that concerns me a bit. 54% from the charity stripe as a Guard throws up all kinds of red flags. Personally, I would have rather seen Verdell Jones commit to UK than Galloway...for strictly offense and ability to consistently knock down the jumper and free throws. But it basically sounds like Galloway is kind of a poor man's version of Liggins, only a much worse free throw shooter....

I heard today that he has failed his 3rd exam and it's 3 stikes and he's out.
Has anyone else heard this or know more about this situation?

Oh God...please, no.
This might be something worth starting an entirely new thread about....or perhaps sending a PM to a moderator or someone who would really have first hand knowledge about this one.....

"I know alot more about this program than you think and what's really going on behind the scenes", you can take that to the bank, i promise you...........

JWORLD, I've looked high and low for this and haven't seen it. But, the first thing to learn about following recruiting is that the previous sentence means nothing.
I surely hope that is incorrect or the situation becomes rectified, as I assume you do too. But I was quite worried about it when we got Galloway, who seems like an insurance policy on Liggins' qualifying.
I also sent you a pm

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I think I've made it clear on here that (outside of Slone, who ended up changing his mind, much to my happiness!), I know nothing about recruiting. I just look at several places, and attempt to decipher what is and what is not good info. The thing about recruiting is that things change, sometimes drastically, in a short matter of time. With that said, I try to not get too wrapped up in things, and take a wait and see position. We have a coach who enjoys recruiting, and that means a lot.
With regard to Liggins, he has a learning disability. We'll just have to wait and see if that helps in the qualifying process.
JWORLD is just relaying what he has heard (thanks!). He can comment further if he wants.
Again, the bottom line is that it will be difficult to know for sure until it happens or does not happen. I've got my fingers crossed, as DeAndre sounds like a Gillispie type player to me.

JWORLD....Please don't misunderstand what I was saying. I have no doubt that you know a lot about the program and what's happening behind the scenes.....and that your sources are good, and that the knowledge you are sharing and passing along is reliable as well. I was just HOPING (and praying) that it wasn't true. The suggestion to contact someone else wasn't meant as a slight at you at all....because you'd just asked if anyone else had heard it also. I simply suggested contacting someone who would definitely know first hand as a means for you to hopefully come back and say that it wasn't (if ya know what I mean....)
But definite thanks for the updates and the heads up regarding Liggins. Hopefully we will get a definitive word pretty soon that this is NOT the case, though (fingers crossed)....

Along with you, I am keeping my fingers crossed on Liggins, Matt. for I, too, think he sounds SO MUCH like a perfect fit for playing for Coach. In fact, I've heard Gillispie discuss both Miller and Liggins a few times on the radio, and he has RAVED about the type players and people they are.
If the young man has a learning disability, it is indeed possible that a exception will be made. The NCAA has done such in the past, although not for Kentucky, to my knowledge. Again, I, too, have my fingers crossed.

What's the latest on DeAndre and qualifying? Anybody have any news?
Man, this is going to be one of those that has me feeling like the little kid in the back seat of the car on a long trip....constantly asking mom and dad "Are we there yet?"

Well, while it isn't anything definitive...here's the latest I could find on DeAndre qualifying:
Liggins impressed onlookers with his passing, shooting and athleticism. That left one big question: Can he gain his academic eligibility to wow UK fans next season?
"It's coming along well," Liggins said of the effort to become academically eligible. "I'm on the verge of qualifying."
Liggins took a college entrance exam last Saturday. "I feel good about that," he said.http://www.kentucky.com/232/story/380858.html

TBCF, it's like Coach said, hardly anybody has qualified yet....4 years of English. I think he's real close, from what I've been reading. The LD will help him for sure.
I've definitely got my fingers crossed.
