With the late signing period upon us....the last of the unsigned recruits will be making their official visits and deciding on a school in the next month or so. With that in mind, I thought it would be a good topic to see who other people would like to see commit to UK.

Here are my choices:

Paul McCoy or Verdell Jones. Either one...but at least one. Both are scorers...Jones supposedly with a little more consistent jumper with deeper range, McCoy with his ability to pentrate. At least one of them.

Ater Majok, Maurice Sutton, Josh Harrellson. Truthfully, I want 2 of the three....and Harrellson is a definite for his size and the fact that he's a banger. Then, either Majok or Sutton....and I lean towards Majok, from the sound of things and as far as his development (from a physical and basketball standpoint) and his game goes. But apparently Sutton seems to be leaning UK's way a little more than Majok (UCONN). But who knows at this point.

But that would be three...and supposedly UK has only ONE scholarship available. I'm sure something could be done...as far as transferring a player or two from athletic to to academic...but it also begs the question why there are so many walk ons on a team that doesn't even have enough athletic scholarships to offer to the players they do want (?)....

If we could reel in 1 of McCoy or Jones and 1 of Harrleson, Matok, and Sutton, I think would consider this a sucessful late signing period. My preferences would probably be McCoy and Matok.

To answer your question of why would we have alot of walk ons along with adding players without the scholarships,Gillispie may be preparing to play fast fast and faster this year at least i hope so.........

Also why do we only have one scholarship? By my count we had 4 to give without taking Coury's away. I am sure the BCG will not leave Coury on scholly and therefore not be able to get one more of the 5 or 6 we are looking at. I am sure they will get creative next year to take 2 or 3 from 09.

Wildcatnc, Coury is not on scholarship this year. That scholaship was not awarded for some reason having to do with partial year or something. Coach explained it on a call in show but I cannot remember now. This year on scholarship were these 12 players:

Crawford, Sr.
Bradley, Sr.
Carter, Jr.
Harris, So.
Jasper, So.
Meeks, So.
Stevenson, So.
Porter, So.
Williams, Fr.
Stewart, Fr.
Patterson, Fr.
Legion, Fr.

Of this group we get the two for the graduating seniors that have already been awarded to Miller and Liggins. The one that Legion gave up when he left that is promised to Galloway. So that leaves one more left to offer up to meet the 13 allowed.

Now, what are our options to mix up these scholarships for next year? The obvious way to secure additional scholarships would be for current players to transfer but there is nothing solid on that beyond speculation.

The other option I continue to hear is for a player or two to move to academic scholarhips. To be honest I continue to hear this discussed but never have I seen any actual verification officially that this is even doable.

Other possibilities include perhaps an incoming player not qualifying. Again, specualtion but no hard facts here.

Finally, the option exists for a player to opt off scholarship and pay their though I have not seen this discussed as an option.

As we have seen, there is also the 'walkon' possibilities adding to our numbers as well with Slone and the kid from Louisville, Delph? Add to that mix the rumored walkon of Mackey and well... the point is, options exist.

I am sure I have not covered everything so if there are other thoughts I would love to hear them along with some confirmation on the move to academic scholarship possibility.

Majok is rapidly moving up my wish list. In fact, I'd probably list him #1 as of now. McCoy is a close 2nd, and Harrellson is right there with McCoy...kind of depending on what Ater does (if Majok signs, Josh isn't quite as much of a priority). But if it could be worked out...I'd like to see Majok, McCoy and Harrellson all commiting to UK for the fall..........

I, too, would love to see all three of those commit to Kentucky, although I don't know that could take three. Too, Majok has been #1 on my wish list for a while.
