LEXINGTON - As Kentucky prepares to try and earn a third straight bowl trip next season, junior linebacker Micah Johnson now has no trouble admitting he was too heavy his freshman year.

He weighed as much as 268 pounds his freshman year before dropping to about 253 last season. Now he's down to about 240 and plans to stay in that range.

"I have to admit I was too heavy as a freshman. I probably was not when I got here. I was fine then, but I tacked weight on. I had to get myself back to where I am now," Johnson said.

Thanks for the link, Brian. Too, I look forward to seeing Micah and Braxton on the field together. :)

I think we'll have one of the better linebacking corps in the SEC.

I'm surely hoping that is the case, Blue Heaven. :) Further, if we can get some defensive linemen healthy and keep them that way, I think we can be one of the better defenses in the SEC, too. The secondary and linebacking corps surely appear strong, and the defensive line surely has the potential, if healthy.

Let us not forget the last tackle Braxton Kelley made during the LSU game. :)

Yes that one was huge but the 3rd down tackle by Johnson was for little yardage and took Hester out of the game.

It could have been worse.

"Rich Brooks loves smaller Johnson."

"Steve Brown thought the bigger Johnson was too much."

"Johnson loses weight but gains mobility."

"Johnson comes in all shapes and sizes."

I could go on for days.

Brooks commented last night that Micah was actually above 250 pounds, not 240. He said that sometimes he dips to 248 after a workout / practice, but that he's currently running about 252. But, Brooks did say that Johnson had more muscle, and that he had much more mobility than his freshman year.
