Tough loss to the Cards that should never have happened. Our reliefers simply couldn't find the plate, walked and hit too many batters. Otherwise our team is playing quite well. Still, we'll be going to a tough Vandy for three this weekend after a game with WKU tonight. With a 9-9 SEC record, we are in last place in the east SEC and really need to get it together down the stretch.

Our Bat Cats aren't quite as good as Cohen (and most of the rest of us) thought they'd be this season. Coach expected the best team he's had at UK and they just aren't living up to that standard--even though they were ranked 17th last I saw. The 2-2 in the last 4 games probably gets them dropped a few places.

But we're a heck of a lot better than the Wildcats of old.

Thankfully, there's still quite a bit of baseball left to play, T75, AND except for Georgia in the SEC East, the race is VERY close. Regardless, yes, the Bat Cats must get it in gear, and some of the relievers' inability to throw strikes has been a problem, noticeably so against Louisville. They did surely come through against Western last night, though, a real pitchers' duel.

Speaking of that Louisville game, before the Western game began on WLAP, I had been listening to Dick Gabriel for thirty minutes or so. Gabriel pointed out that the Louisville game SHOULD have gone into extra innings. With the bases loaded and two out, the Louisville batter hit the supposed game-winning single. The young man on first ran home to celebrate with the team, including the guy who had supposedly scored the winning run.

The UK baseball players were SHARP. They threw the ball to second. The UK player touched the bag and even continued to stand on it, but the not-so-sharp umpires just walked off the field. It was a FORCE OUT, meaning it mattered not that the runner had scored before the ball got to second for the tag. Again, it SHOULD have gone into extra innings.

I agree, our pitching has been worse this year than I expected it to be. Hard time finding the zone sometimes, too many instances of full counts and issuing too many walks. Next year won't be much better since Albers, Baber, Dombrowski, Lovett and Warner are all gone. That is alot of quality pitching gone to graduation.

I fully expected us to be roughly 35-6, 11-5 in SEC play at this point. The good news, we are 7th overall in the SEC, but that does not guarantee us a pass into the tournament. Alabama is 8-10 occupying the 8th spot, with Arkansas and Auburn not far behind. Anything can happen, but I think we are in at this point assuming we win at least 2 more series (preferably against the SEC East). We can start by winning the series against Vandy.

The Bat Cats just lost another heartbreaker, 3-2. The Cats will meet the Commodores again tomorrow. May they have better fortunes in that one.

By the way, there were no relievers for the Cats tonight. The Cats' bats just couldn't get it going against Vandy's pitching.
