"It was so difficult," he said. "Kentucky told me I was going to be a starter right away, but I just like what Coach Nash is doing. I really feel like I can change the program around and help get the team to the (NCAA) Tournament."

That statement made me dumber thanks !!! Who gives a flying flute if HI makes the tourney. He could have made the tourney here and lit it up. Evidently he wasn't going to be eligible and he said that because it sounds better than.. I wasn't smart enough to play at KY. JMO I'm not mad I'm sure BG will land someone else but what he said was very weird to me.

This guy doesn't have his future i mind. Even if he does well, any draft status he might have will be seriously diminis hed because of the doubts he can compete at the highest level. It would have been better for this kid to have chosen KY. Here's to wishing him well. He should have some fun and sun for the next couple of years.

Let's see; which is the best path to the NBA?
HI or UK?
Not a hard choice unless you non't think you can get to the NBA.

In Translation.....
"It was so difficult," he said. " Kentucky told me that the chances of me becoming eligible were equal to a UT fan getting into midnight madness. The only thing I would have been starting for was the practice squad. I really do feel that to even get to touch a basketball I need to go to Hawaii. That way, I can at least see hot Hawaian girls". :icon_lol:

Folks, it seems that none of us KNOW anything in regard to Flemings' recruitment, one way or the other. FWIW, Matt Jones wrote yesterday that Kentucky had really wanted Flemings, but lost him. :shrug1: Who knows! The point is that we can say anything we want here, but we honestly don't know one way or the other.
For me, I'd rather just wish him well (while I, too, can surely not understand his decision IF we did really want him) and forget about him. I'm just clinging to the hope we still sign Ater Majok, who is actually rated #13 in the country now.

The Flemings to Hawaii thread is for all the lecturing and any elitist commentary. THAT thread is where Kentucky fans can feel free to attack other Kentucky fans and defend Flemings all they want. But this thread has been pretty devoid of any holier than thou attitudes....so let's have a little fun here, and try to keep it that way, OK?

Thats funny. Hey mods, when did we set a rule on this thread saying what can and cant be said regarding a player going to Hawaii? Did I miss the memo? Did I attack another Kentucky fan or did I just voice an opinion?

No...you didn't "attack another Kentucky fan"...and that wasn't intended to single YOU out. I just had enough comments directed at me for this quote:
Well...if this is true (and I've got no reason to believe otherwise)....then here's hoping that all the talk of him NOT qualifying becomes a reality.....:tongue3:
That I can see what other fans, of other universities around the country, have been telling me the past few years.
I've always thought that the University of Kentucky had some of THE best fans....period. BUT...over the past few years, I've encountered a whooooole lot of people from across the country that *HATE* UK fans. I never could understand that, and when told that, I'd always ask them WHY? And they would almost always tell me "because UK fans think they are BETTER than everyone else". Honestly, I never understood what they were talking about...until I joined this forum, and then began to get verbally attacked simply for making the above quote. And quite frankly, I don't see any positive that comes from UK fans attacking other UK fans, and/or trying to correct their way of thinking. poodoo mentioned how it seems that issues like this has "divided up" members of this community, and she is exactly right. So while I can understand the desire to "keep things civil" towards the recruits that choose another school....I certainly don't see any positive from a fan base "eating it's own"...to try to take bit of a "high road" approach. That does come across as elitist and holier than thou....and unfortunately kind of gives some credence to what those who say that they hate the Kentucky fans have been saying.....

I agree....BCG doesn't even tell the guys he has right now if they will start next year, he makes them earn it. I imagine what was said could have been: "You have as good of a chance as anyone of coming in and starting next year"
Interpreted as: "You're my guy next year"
Meant as: "Everone is on an equal playing field"

You and I have ZERO idea what BCG tells kids he is recruiting when he is visiting them. He very well may have said that he would start, we have no idea. Also, I'm sure he is starting to feel the heat and frustration and who knows what he might tell a kid to get him to come to UK right now. All coaches do it, don't think we have some magical coach who doesn't make promises, I would bet my life he does and will continue to do so if it means a recruit coming to UK.

You REALLY think we didn't offer Flemmings? C'mon now, let's be reasonable. The guy averaged a double double including over 20 points a game and we need a scorer, badly. AND we are Kentucky. We get kids in school. So you REALLY think he wasn't offered?

Yes, I really don't think we offered. He needed too many hours to become eligible to play at UK. Something like 21. BCG wouldn't tie up another scholly on a maybe. HI isn't even sure he will qualify.

Blue_N_White, in all fairness, I was wanting all of us to get along better, period. Let's all throw away that "holier than thou" label for folks who believe in taking that "high road. Too, let's all understand that you just said something in defense of OUR Cats and not really mean that you wish bad for the Hawaii signee. It has to go both ways, you know. :)
Also, though, I so agree with you about not "eating our own." That is something we fans sometimes do, and that is definitely NOT a good thing, in my opinion. By the way, in regard to some folks' hating UK fans, it's for a lot of different reasons. Our passion perhaps makes us sometimes say things we probably shouldn't say. Too, admittedly, there does seem to be an arrogance sometimes. I don't think it's because of Kentucky fans' "taking the high road." I surely hope not, at least.

poodoo...God love ya. I love your optimistic attitude. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to be more grounded in the reality of the disappointments than always seeing or looking for the "silver lining". I have followed Kentucky basketball ever since I knew what basketball is. I remember watching the '78 team win it all...as a little kid. I watched the '83 team lose to Louisville in the NCAA tourney. I watched '84 team lose in the Final Four and the '86 team lose in the Elite 8. I watched arguably my favorite UK team in '88 (Davender, Chapman, Blackmon, Bennett, Lock) lose to Villanova in the second round of the NCAA tourney. I endured the hardship of the "Emory package" fiasco and the "P" word years. I got as excited as I've ever been watching Rick Pitino works his magic and seemingly work miracles to take a program from the "P" word era to the absolute TOP of college basketball in the mid 90's....with a couple of Final Fours and a couple of more Title Game appearances and NCAA Championship. But now...we've entered the longest drought in my lifetime without a Kentucky team even making a Final Four appearance!
So it is passion for the program that wants me to see it attract and sign the players necessary to be on or towards the top again. People will have to forgive me if I am so passionate about it that I don't want to accept mediocrity and get upset from time to time. While I have a great deal of love and affection for all the players that choose UK...I am more loyal to the program than I am to any single player. And that's why if I see an opportunity for the university to "upgrade" the talent level, I'm all for it. Players come and go....but the University of Kentucky men's basketball program will still be here and stand the test of time. And I never want to see it fall from greatness to the level of "just another program" in my lifetime.......

like poodoo said we have know idea what BG said to Flemmings. But I'd be willing to bet my left pistacio that he didn't guarantee him he'd start. Everybody does realize that Mark Freaking Coury started most of last year right ??
my view on the flemmings a Rainbow matter is who the hell cares ? we only have one, maybe two, maybe maybe three schollies to give and so what if this flemmings guy doesn't want one of them. just like singleton he can aspire to maybe make the ncaa's !!! so let him. BG wants to win championships (see my sig) and to do that we need some team players and obviously a guy like flemmings isn't one. he wants to be the man and to make sure of that he went to the aloha state.

We didn't even offer the guy from what i've read. Haven't you all read some of the post about Billy G. telling him not to miss anymore classes and the boy turned around and missed the very next day? So Gillispie just quit messin with him.

Blue_N_White, in answer to your comment, I, too, am actually firmly grounded in reality. Reality to me is that we usually cannot change what has happened that we don't like, so the next best thing for happiness is to find that silver lining. ;) I'm not always as optimistic as I sound. Yet, as Coach G say, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% what you make of it, or something like that. I try to make myself be that way. That's all. :)
While we're not getting all the recruits we want, I'm just hoping that the current players really develop in the offsesason. Oh, I'm still hanging on to hope "until the fat lady sings," :) BUT Coach G is going to have to put a team on the floor with the players he DOES have, period. I remember that the team performed FAR above expectations in the conference race. His team almost beat the SEC champ in Knoxville, even without two of its key starters.
That is the attitude Coach takes. We can STILL win, even without some of those guys we so want on our team. Coach said he and the players were still thinking they could win the national championship this past season. Now THAT is optimism. By the way, it's certainly better than pessimism when faced with the need of accomplishing something. :)
Yes, I remember those days, too, and I badly want at least another Final Four soon. Yet, as I see it, the only way I can help is by giving all the passionate support I can give. Mainly, we all want the same thing here, more championships for our Cats, and united support for those Cats is the best way to help them get there, in my humble opinion. :) Yes, I fully understand the frustration, though.
In regard to Flemings, Flemmings, whatever, I, too, find it hard to believe that Coach G told him he would start at Kentucky, maybe start IF he were to work hard. Too, none of us actually know that he got that offer. Regardless, it matters not, for it's on to the NEXT recruit. That's life.
