It's safe to say that the NFL Draft didn't go exactly as planned for Kentucky quarterback Andre Woodson.
First, he had to wait until the end of the sixth round to hear his name called, and then he was drafted by a team that hadn't been on his radar leading up to the draft.
Woodson became the 198th overall pick, by the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants on Sunday. He was the 32nd selection of the sixth round.

OK, first, I know Mel Kiper is probably a moron, but he did at one time have Woodson as the #1 QB prospect right? Second, I'm really sure that there are QB's out there that are better pro potential than Andre', but here is what floors me. These QB's went ahead of Andre:

1. Joe Flacco of Delaware in the first round. Ok, he may be a good one, but Delaware??????????

2. Brian Brohm. All I have to say is Louisville. Brohm may be a better NFL QB or not, but again, Louisville. He makes the list

3. Kevin O'Connell of San Diego State? Preseason evaluations did not even list him as a pro prospect

4. Josh Johnson of San Diego? This cat is 200lb and played against Morehead! He may be an athlete, but a NFL QB?

5. Colt Brennan of Hawaii????????????????????????????? Doesn't anyone
remember Andre Ware or David Klingler

6. Eric Ainge of Tennessee. Never fun to lose to the guys in Orange

I'm so relieved that Andre finally got drafted. NY might not be a good choice for him because of who's ahead of him. Whatever it was that put him this far down, slow release, holding on to the ball to long etc., if he works hard he will be ok. Injuries always happen and sometime, somewhere, he will get his chance.

1. Plenty of good quarterbacks have come from I-AA schools. Ever hear of Steve McNair or Kurt Warner or Rich Gannon?

2. It floors you that Brohm was taken ahead of Woodson because YOU don't like Louisville?

3. That's why they play the games. You don't base championships on the preseason either.

4. Phil Sims played AT Morehead State. How did that turn out?

5. While Andre Ware never turned out to be a superstar like a lot of people thought he would, he did have a fairly decent NFL career. Based on where Brennan was drafted, if he has a similar career, he'll do just fine.

6. See answer No. 2.

Ok, maybe you didn't see my tongue in cheek with Brohm and Ainge. Yes, I hate Louisville and Tennessee so they made my list. I'll give you that. However, I don't want you to give me a reason why each of these players were drafted. My point wasn't to downgrade the players or dispute their being drafted. I'm not a moron. Of course, I know D-AA QB's can be good pro QB's, and yes, it's why you play the game, blah blah blah. I have no qualms about these players being drafted. However, the point of my post was that these players were drafted above Andre' Woodson.

You obviously have no disagreements with all of these players being drafted higher than Woodson. I do (Brohm questionably not included). I may be way off base, and maybe a bit of a Homer, but I find it hard to believe that Joe Flacco, Kevin O'Connell, Josh Johnson, Colt Brennan, and heck, even John David Booty, and yes, Eric Ainge will ever be better NFL QB's than Andre' Woodson. However, we may never get the chance to see because Andre' will be stuck behind Eli Manning.

I would be shocked if even one of the mentioned QB's ever become consistent starters for an NFL team.

This floors me. Woodson must have really messed up in his combines, or said the wrong things in interviews. I simply cannot fathom why he went so low in the draft: 2 great years at UK, an NCAA record, incredible accuracy in passing + one poor Senior Bowl does not = 11th QB taken in my book.

Many think that Woodson will battle with Anthony Wright to even be retained by the Giants after summer camp, since they officially have 5 QBs on their roster now with the addition of Andre. I just don't get it.

Well, according to the "experts" on teevee, it's because he has poor mechanics (a hitch in his throwing motion), a slow release, and is not very mobile.

Don't be. I knew that Joe Flacco would be drafted ahead of Woodson....same with Brohm. Both should have decent to serviceable, and possibly good to very good NFL careers. The real surprise to me is that you list Flacco and Brohm but do NOT list Chad Henne. Both Flacco and Brohm were drafted ahead of Henne...and for a reason.

Flacco has incredible physical tools. The ONLY thing that was holding him back, in the minds of many, many, many NFL people....was the fact that he played at Delaware, and concerns about the level of competition he faced. Because at the combines....and during the "QB competition drills" televised on ESPN...Flacco flat out tore it up. I was VERY impressed watching him...and in all honesty, had never even heard of him before hand. But I knew who he was afterward. Woodson didn't even participate in that event.

Brohm sliding as far as he did to the end of the second round was a huge surprise, in all honesty. I think a lot of teams could regret passing on him (no pun intended)....maybe even Baltimore (who took Flacco in the first). Brohm may not quite have the arm and legs that Flacco does....but he's been in the limelight a lot longer, played in a pro style offense and against top competition. Flacco has the tools, but a few more question marks (in the minds of many) in regards to translating to the pros.

So honestly...I thought that Woodson was going to be the 5th QB taken in the draft. Ryan, Brohm, Flacco, and Henne were the 4 guys I saw going ahead of him. But I'll admit, I liked Ainge a lot more than some...and thought it wouldn't surprise me to see him go AROUND the time Woodson did (meaning I saw both going a little higher). But the Booty, Brennan, O'Connell, Johnson, etc. picks....yeah, I definitely agree with you on those......

Mike Martz' meddling really cost Andre big time at the Senior bowl.

Don't take this personal, because I know you are just reporting what the talking heads say, but I'll address the following:

1. Hitch? Maybe. I'm no expert there. His throws looked plenty good at UK, but that definitely may be a downfall.

2. Slow of foot? He's no Michael Vick (my dog is thankful), but here are the 40 times of the top QB's in the draft:

1. Matt Ryan - Boston College
Height: 6-5 Weight: 224 40 Time: 4.90

2. Brian Brohm
Height: 6-3 Weight: 227 40 Time: 4.82

3. Chad Henne
Height: 6-3 Weight: 245 40 Time: 5.00

4. Andre Woodson
Height: 6-4 Weight: 224 40 Time: 4.83

5. Colt Brennan
Height: 6-3 Weight: 200 40 Time: 4.75

6. Joe Flacco - Delaware
Height: 6-6 Weight: 237 40 Time: 4.92

7. John David Booty - USC
Height: 6-3 Weight: 215 40 Time: 5.00

8. Erik Ainge - Tennessee
Height: 6-5 Weight: 225 40 Time: 5.05

9. Josh Johnson - San DiegoHeight: 6-3 Weight: 213 40 Time: 4.55

10. Kevin O'Connell - San Diego State
Height: 6'5 Weight: 225 40 Time: 4.61

Based on those numbers, there are 5 QB's slower than Woodson, including first round pick Flacco. Also, the NFL must not seem too concerned with the slow footed Brett Favre and the likes.
