Dominique Ferguson commits to Kentucky (http://blog.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=5935)

According to Evan Daniels at Scout.com, Dominique Ferguson, a 6′9″ power forward from Indianapolis has commited to the Cats. Ferguson, a ranked as the 8th best player in the class of 2010, had drawn the interest of Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue and Wake Forest. Ferguson, according to Daniels, had taken an unofficial visit to Kentucky and was drawn to their style of play and the “family atmosphere”. He comes to the Kentucky from the storied Lawrence North program that produced Greg Oden and Mike Conley, as well as the late John Stewart, a Kentucky signee.
Ferguson, who has a 7′5″ wingspan and has a strong inside-outside game, joins Dakota Euton and K.C. Ross-Miller in Kentucky’s 2010 class.

I *REALLY* (can't emphasize that enough) like what Coach is doing. The two future (and third POTENTIAL) recruits for '09 and '10 being talked about today all have size:

Euton - 6'-8" (and growing)
Ferguson - 6'-9"
*Hood - 6'-7" (and growing)

AND a perimeter game!!! We might have big guys draining threes.

From what I'm hearing...Euton may grow to be 6'9" or 6'10"!

Just imagine....a 6'7" SG....6'9" SF....and possibly 6'8" to 6'10" PF in a few years...all on the court together! Able to go inside and shoot outside!?!?!

Yep....Kentucky basketball is definitely looking up....

http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/uploaded_images/Ferguson-722542.JPG (http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/uploaded_images/Ferguson-723301.JPG)Here's a photo I took about 10 days ago of Dominique Ferguson at the Pittsburgh JamFest. He plays for the Indiana Elite LNO team, along with Eric Gordon's brother - Evan.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound Ferguson goes to Indianapolis Lawrence North.

He's a member of the Class of 2010 and is ranked No. 8 by Scout.com.

Oh, and he told me he has a 7-5 wingspan!

I just spoke with Lawrence North 2010 forward Dominique Ferguson and he confirmed that he committed to Kentucky about an hour ago. Ferguson is one of the top 10 players in the 2010 class and visited Indiana last fall several times when Kelvin Sampson was still running the show. This is a huge get for UK as Ferguson is one of the most versatile players in the 2010 class and should be a five-star prospect when Rivals and Scout release their rankings after the spring evaluation period.

No, he eliminated us last year. The players, IMO, that we need to be after is Evan Anderson, Derrick Favors or Daniel Orton. There are more!! After this signing period is over, look for a thread stickied to the top of this recruiting forum that will list who we are after. :widcat:

Very big addition. If the draft were held tomorrow for the class of 2010, Ferguson might go #1 and would undoubtedly go in the top 5. He's athletic, well-sized, and he has a freakish wingspan. Reminds me somewhat of Brandon Wright.

Evaluation

November, 2007: An unbelievable talent, Dominique Ferguson is one of the most gifted players in the 2010 class. He suffered a knee injury as a freshman and it has clearly slowed his development as a player. Still, there is no doubting his talent and his ability to become an elite prospect. Ferguson has the skill level to beat you off the dribble and he can also make an occasional jump shot, but the biggest question right now is that he is trying to become a perimeter player instead of playing to his strengths, which is scoring at the rim. He is a great offensive rebounder and he gets up and down the floor extremely well. He is physically dominant for his class as well. Ferguson really needs to simplify what he does and become great at it. While he can still develop his overall game through individual skill improvement, Ferguson needs to be productive when he plays and his best way to produce is slashing and at the rim.

September, 2007: Dominique has a chance to be one of the best in the Class of 2010. He is a combination forward who should be able to beat and bang inside or take it to the perimeter if it gets him the advantage. He needs to not be afraid of his size inside and battle inside more than settling to play on the perimeter.

Dominique is a very skilled power forward. He wants to be a 3 and spends too much time on the perimeter. Dominique is a little soft and does not rebound enough for his size. He can put the ball on the floor very well for a power forward. He is also a solid shooter out to 17 feet. Dominique will probably end up as a 3 down the line. He is a top 40 player in the class of 2010 nationally.

Jody Demling reports

Kentucky commitment Dominique Ferguson showed off his mad skills on Sunday but missed Monday. I was told he went back home for summer school. Ferguson is a great kid off the court and on the court he's one of the top 10 players in the 2010 class. He is a can't-miss prospect for the Wildcats.
http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/blog.html

From Hoopsreport.com

Dominique Ferguson (http://www.hoopsreport.com/player_database_details.php?id=633) (6’8 WF Indiana Elite LNO 2010) – Ferguson was the best player on the court in both games he played in on Sunday. At 6’8, he possesses a great first step to go by defenders and the size to either finish or get to the free throw line. More impressive than that is his ability to push the ball and handle on the break. If he grows, and when he gets stronger, Ferguson will be an absolute matchup nightmare for opponents.

Dominique Ferguson: Write it down….the next true star at UK. Supremely talented at every skill on the basketball floor and he will only get better. No one who sees Ferguson play (not named Tipton) comes away with anything but “A” grades. The only question to be determined is whether he is good enough to be a one and doner….the early money is on “yes.”

Las Vegas: Day Two (http://kentucky.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=829906)
By Justin Young (Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting)

Kentucky commitment Dominique Ferguson (http://kentucky.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=71072) played very strong against a very big French Hoops team. The class of 2010 five-star prospect certainly played the part very well of a top level player.

Ferguson scored from deep, drove to the lane, challenged the shot-blockers and finished with a hard earned 17 points. He worked the boards and looked awfully familiar on the offensive end when challenged by a number of big, physical and tall defenders.

Already ranked at No. 13 overall in the class of 2010, Ferguson's upside mixed with production was enough to get the wheels in motion when thinking about just how high of a prospect he can be in the rising junior class.

Junior, Indianapolis/Lawrence North
Ferguson has quick leaping ability and length, which make him a very good rebounder, especially on the offensive end. He has good ballhandling skills and dexterity for his height, which allows him to take slower interior players away from the basket and exploit them off the dribble. In the post, when guarded by smaller defenders, Ferguson has decent footwork, but he will have to increase his strength in order to finish while absorbing contact on the block.

Ferguson has always been a talent full of potential, but down the stretch this summer he has proven to be a productive player. Playing with more aggression and consistent effort, he has been a force defensively as a shot blocker and rebounder. Offensively, he has put the ball in the basket at a higher rate to compliment his slashing and passing abilities.

I found a little video footage of Ferguson. While it's not much, at least it's a little something to be able to watch, and not just read, on him

Looks to be athletic, with some decent quickness and good leaping ability. Appears to be a good ball handler, and has the ability to put it on the floor and take it to the hoop. Also has a nice stroke on the jumper with some range as well. A little on the thin side, but he's also just midway through his junior year in high school. Overall, he looks pretty good....sorry that there's not more :icon_lol:

Enjoy!

Dominique Ferguson, a Kentucky recruit, and Stephan Van Treese (Louisville) each scored 14 points to lead Lawrence North. Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie was in attendance.

Van Treese had 10 of his game-high 13 rebounds on the offensive glass.

"I never felt like we were going to lose the game," the 6-9 senior forward said. "Franklin Central is always a good team and always a well-disciplined team. For us to come back with a run after they made a run says a lot, I think."

Brian Higdon scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead Franklin Central.

With four of his high school teammates committed or signed to play basketball at the University of Louisville, Indianapolis Lawrence North junior -- and University of Kentucky commitment -- Dominique Ferguson is used to the talk.

The 6-foot-9 Ferguson, who is one of six Lawrence North players committed to NCAA Division I schools, said there's a lot of talk about the Louisville-Kentucky rivalry on his team.

"It's all fun, but we do talk a lot of trash," he said. "They were all talking crazy before the (UK-U of L) game saying they were going to blow us out and all. The game was a nail-biter, so that was fun and all. We try to keep it fun."

Lawrence North senior center Stephan Van Treese has signed with U of L, and junior Justin Martin and sophomores Ryan Taylor and Michael Chandler have committed to the Cardinals. Another teammate, Jeff Robinson, is headed to Purdue.

But the 6-foot-9 Ferguson is already looking forward to getting to Lexington. A top-10 prospect nationally in the Class of 2010, Ferguson committed to Kentucky last spring.

Ferguson leads the Lawrence North team in scoring and said he feels like his game has improved a great deal since his sophomore season.

My ballhandling is better and I feel I am just a lot more comfortable bringing the ball up the court and going 1-on-1 with anybody," Ferguson said. "Everything in my game is coming along."

A little old, but I hadn't seen it posted.

http://www.kentucky.com/823/story/623723.html

Dec. 30, 2008: Ferguson helped Lawrence North topple Atlanta South and five-star recruit Derrick Favors 58-44 in the title game of the T-Mobile Invitational. Ferguson scored just nine points, but his 11 boards were part of Lawrence North's 54-28 rebounding advantage over Atlanta South. Favors, who has not committed to a school and is the top-rated big man in the Class of 2009, fouled out midway through the fourth quarter on a double-foul call as he and Ferguson exchanged elbows. "The whole game he'd been throwing little elbow shots," Ferguson told the Indianapolis Star. "I got kind of tired of it."

I like to hear he won't take any crap like that. Hopefully, though, he can keep it under control and not lash out at another player.

Ferguson makes impression

Besides Ferguson, Kentucky has a legitimate shot at Brandon Knight (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=59767), Roscoe Smith (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=68256), Joe Jackson (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=68259), Doron Lamb (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=68206), Will Barton (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=72762) and Cameron Clark (http://georgiatech.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=76176) - who will move up in the new rankings which come out next week.

Ferguson is a very skilled four man who could possibly play some three as well. A couple weekends ago he looked great shooting 3-pointers at the adidas Nations workout. He was also the top rebounder during the session. His body is developing nicely, and he has a chance to be an elite prospect. The main areas where he needs to improve are being tougher – physically and mentally. At times he plays too passively and can disappear from the action, and he doesn't always embrace physical contact. He is, however, improving in these areas and has a bright future ahead of him.

Lawrence North's Dominique Ferguson has been selected to play in the National Basketball Players Association Top-100 camp.

Ferguson, who reopened his recruitment after initially committing to Kentucky, is considered one of the top 10 players in the 2010 class.

Ferguson will be joined by 24 of the top 25 players in Scout.com's ranking of the 2010 class at the camp that runs June 17-24 at the University of Virginia. The 6-9 forward will be playing with other elite players such as Tristan Thompson from Findlay Prep in Nevada; Harrison Barnes of Ames, Iowa; and Brandon Knight of Pine Crest in Florida.

Rick Bozich has this bizarre blog post about Ferguson today. Not really sure what this means, if anything, but anyway here's the link:

That is weird. This is the first I have heard of any possible character issues with DF.

It seems like he might be tranferring to Oak Hill and maybe doesn't mind burning some bridges...but again, there is no real "for the record" reporting here. Mostly hearsay. I still think of Ferguson as a top priority for 2010.

Thanks for sharing, Will. Too, I, likewise, don't know what it means, if anything, and will not speculate. Yet, it does seem a bit odd. We'll just have to wait for more info on this one. :shrug1:

Lawrence North coach Jack Keefer said he hopes the departure of standout rising senior Dominique Ferguson (http://www.indystar.com/article/20090715/SPORTS0615/90715030/Top+hoops+recruit+Ferguson+leaving+LN) can be "addition by subtraction."

Ferguson's father, Deon Ferguson, said Wednesday morning that his son will attend Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia for the upcoming school year.

"Dom did not fit into being a Wildcat," said Keefer, who added that he had not been notified directly by the Fergusons. "The workouts and the classroom work and the discipline and teamwork was not what he was looking for. We have a great team here, a possible state championship team. I'm sorry he doesn't want to be a part of that."

Deon Ferguson said it "would have been tough" for Dominique to meet the college entrance requirements had he stayed at Lawrence North for his senior year. Keefer said everything was in place for him to succeed, but he chose not to utilize it.

"He just didn't want to work at it," the veteran coach said. "He's wasn't qualified and wasn't taking his summer classes that he needed to get caught up."

Sounds like this kid needs to develop a better work ethic.

And the red flags just keep oooooooon comin'.

My desire to see Ferguson at Kentucky began to change when HE HIMSELF (Dominique) seemed to have a desire to play for Billy Gillispie, but NOT John Calipari. And now we're seeing the type players Cal can bring in compared to Clyde....and hearing about Ferguson's questionable work ethic....and it kinda makes sense. But that was my first really huge red flag with Dominique right there.....

by what his old coach said, I don't really want him. If he were to change his work ethic then come on down. Hate to say it but most of the time kids don't change a whole lot in this area. Not saying it can't be done just think it would be the exception not the rule.
