New Features on the Board

Hey all - the new version of the software is installed and we are testing some of the new features. More of them will show up as we go and we will post here when something new is made available.

One thing that is available now is "Thread Tagging". This allows you to add tags to a thread and help with the search function on the board. When you start a new thread you will see a box below the main text area that says "Tags". Just type one or more keywords into this box that tell what the thread is mainly about. The more that people do this the easier it will be to see similar topics and will give better search results.

There are also some pretty cool features involving user profiles that we are going to be experimenting with...

I've take the liberty of trying out the new "Contacts and Friends" options. That looks pretty good. Now if the ones I selected will agree to be my friends..LOL! :icon_biggrin:

Other new features:
LOTS of new profile features...

Custom profiles! Change the look of your personal profile - custom colors, backgrounds, fonts, etc. The admins even have the ability to add custom fields so if you have a suggestion please send me a PM.
Friends - Request and approve friends
Social Groups - create your own social groups and invite folks who have similar interests or are geographically close to you. Heck, make one up for no reason what-so-ever.
User photo albums - these can be used to store some of your favorite photos to share with the board or to customize your profile with. Comments are allowed on the photos!
Public messages - leave a public message or comment for someone on their profile. Can include pictures!
Other features:

Thread prefixes (coming soon) - admin defined prefixes for thread titles
Thread tags - place a few key words in the "thread tags" when starting a new thread... this helps future searches and defines a 'tag cloud'. This allows users to find what is being posted about or searched for most often.
Lots of cool moderation and tracking tools for the staff! (Heh heh)

I do have a question though. One feature seems to have disappeared. The forum software use to mark with a little icon which threads I have posted in but it doesn't do so anymore. Is that feature gone for good?

I'm glad you posted this. Now I know I'm not going crazy. :icon_lol: It was a little blue box with a checkmark in it, under the "Thread rating" column, wasn't it?

I used that a lot too. We've been trying to figure out what happened to it, but haven't had any luck yet. Rest assured, we'll keep trying. That is a very handy feature. (MUCH easier to see than the arrow in the envelope on the left side of the thread list.)

Yep. Made it very easy for me to find the threads I was posting in.

I like the obvious new features but have to admit that I miss the little flags that indicated which threads I was subscribed to.
