Both were inducted into the Kentucky Hall of Fame last night at the Galt House..
Tubby said last nights honor was bittersweet because of the recent death of manager Bill Keightley
he said he has never been to a derby without him and does not know if he will attend this year...
he also said when he retires he will make Kentucky his home.
Mashburn said Kentucky is home to him.....he said home is where people understand you
Congrats to both...well deserved:thumbup:
I'm glad to hear that Mashburn said that about UK. Sometimes I wonder if some of these players just forget about Kentucky (the state and the program) when they move on. I'm very happy to hear the Mash still loves Kentucky.
Tubby rocks too.

Say what you want about his recruiting and coaching, but Tubby remains as classy as ever. That he intends to return or retire to the Bluegrass is amazing given all the "perceived" grief he endured here. Its a nice article in the H-L about the ceremony if you haven't read it already.

Tubby show his class, as always--
'But the state didn't feel quite the same for Smith without a warm welcome from Bill Keightley, the long-time equipment manager who died in late March.
"Being back in Kentucky makes me miss him more," Smith said of Keightley, who was inducted in 2007.
As a tribute to Keightley, Smith brought the equipment manager's wife, Hazel, and daughter, Karen, to the ceremony at the Galt House.'

I read Tubby's comments in the Leader this morning. They were very touching. He basically said "Once a Kentuckian, always a Kentuckian," and, as noted above, he siad that when he retires it will not be to Florida but to his "Old Kentucky Home" where he plans to dip his feet into the Kentucky River.
Tubby had his issues the past couple of years, but the man is just pure class through and through.

Quote from LHL link:
"We're so blessed to have been a part of such a special place. We'll be Kentuckians until the day we die."

Shortly after Tubby had left, I had read a quote from him saying that he and Donna would come back here to retire. Yes, SBCatMan, you say it well: "Tubby had his issues the past couple of years, but the man is just pure class through and through." In particular, while the media has even tried to bait him into negative comments about his experience at Kentucky and us Kentucky fans, all he has done is speak glowingly of both Kentucky and us fans. Also, while I refuse to debate Tubby's coaching, as we have a new coach, I will certainly congratulate him on any awards AND take this opportunity to praise, still again, the man's CLASS.
Congratulations to both Tubby and Jamal. Also, I love how both of them call Kentucky "HOME." :)
P.S. I forgot to mention that Tubby took Mr. Keightley's widow and daughter to the ceremony with him. That was the most touching for me, along with his saying that he didn't know if he could go to the Derby this year without Mr. Keightley's going with him. So many so loved Mr. Wildcat. Still again, RIP, Mr. Bill Keightley.
