That is crazy. I thought he looked a bit off all year and not as good as he had his SO and JR year. This would certainly explain that. Very impressive.

Not that puts it all in perspective. Basketball, recruiting, bad officiating, and all the other stuff isn't as important as it was. May God Bless you Chris, and give you many opportunities to tell this very courageous story. So many of us need to hear it.

Lofton is one brave kid. I knew he wasn't at the top of his game this past year and didn't know why but now I know. Thanks for the link.

I just heard about this on The Zone sports show out of Nashville. It is also kinda wild how he was one of 2 players after that tourney game to submit a urine sample for a random drug screen and they found the problem there. I was him nothing but THE BEST.

Beautifully said, lighthouse. May God indeed give Chris many opportunities "to tell this very courageous story." That Chris only told the one teammate, his road roommate, near the end of the season is just unreal.
Also, yes, we all need to hear it. What a story it is of this young man's faith and character, too. As a mother, I cannot imagine what his parents were going through, particularly his mother and probably even more because he was her only child. As I read that Chris would cry himself to sleep while talking to his parents over the phone and she would give him Bible verses, I thought back to how we had been told Chris had a wonderful family. Thank the Lord for that AND that he had been randomly chosen for that drug test. I had previously wished Chris the best of luck in the draft because of his reported "class." Yes, that wish of mine has now grown in size. God bless you, Chris Lofton.

God Bless Chris Lofton and family..........as a mom I can't even imagine this....it makes you rethink life
It broke my heart to hear the quote that he cried more this past year than he has in his whole life....

All I can think to say is, "May God bless him from here on out and may his courageous story be a inspiration to all that contact that dreadful disease."

Poodoo's sentiments are echoed in my respect for you, Chris. My friend and co-worker is riding a bike from Texas to Alaska this summer to raise money for cancer research, and I'll honor your strength by helping to sponsor her efforts.
Coach Pearl has it right, your jersey belongs in the rafters.

Nothing but Respect for Chris Lofton. To have dealt with and overcome such a disease is just amazing for anyone. God was sure with this young man. I wish all the blessings in the world to Chris and his family. Good luck in the draft.

No jokes, no snide remarks......that is why I enjoy the WN from time to time. I am not even a natural born Kentuckian, and I am proud of what this Kentucky boy did. Hopefully for the Cats some of that Maysville class rubbed off on Miller. By the way he handled his recruiting I would say it probably did.

What C Lofton did is nothing short of amazing. To have surgery, to go through chemo and never make excuses, to get back into shape only a few months of even completing chemo. WOW.
I can only imagine how hard it is to go through that. And essentially he went through it alone with his parents as his 'life line.'
I gave him hell this past year and I kinda feel bad about it now. But in the end he gets the last laugh and gets to show me how tough he really is.
I would've loved to have seen him in blue but he made his own way and I think for him, it was that much better.
I wish him nothing but the best in the future

It is my prayer and my hope that Chris Lofton will remain cancer free. I've seen cancer claim my mother, my oldest brother, an uncle, and several close friends. It's great to hear of someone beating this terrible disease.

Same here. I am sure he gains strength and inspiration from a guy like Lance Armstrong and I hope his heart and determination makes him a champion too. He already is a champion to us for what he has done though.

I just want to second what Lexvol said.
While we can all get heated and let our love for our teams get the better of us at times, you guys have been nothing but class about Lofton's situation and I'm sure he will recognize that.
I know it isn't much, but I am duly impressed with what I've read here.

Cancer has left it's ugly mark on all of us in some way. What this young man has gone through emotionally is unbelievable. His courage is great.
God bless the Lofton family. May your future be bright Chris!!!

He's a true role model!!! I don't care if he went to UT. He went through this about the only way you can go through... Through faith!!!
Everything happens for a reason, and I think it happened to him because God knew he would come to him to get through it, and I'm sure his story will help many. Says in the bible that we go through hardships, trials, and temptations to overcome them and build character. Lofton is a perfect example. God Bless.

I will too Jeff and I will even go cheer him in person when he plays in Denver (I normally don't pay money to see the NBA: Not Basketball Anymore)...amazing story...I have lost an aunt, grandfather, very good friend and my wife to that horrible disease and I love it when someone kicks it's aspen...you go Chris

A little boy in my three year olds preschool class is undergoing treatment for a malignent rhabnoid (sp?) tumor in his brain. It's not looking too positive. My twins (5) are in the same class as his older brother. It literally feels like my heart is breaking when I think about what his mother must be going through. I can't imagine having one of my children in that position. Thank God that Chris' prognosis turned out well. I'll be keeping him in my prayers.

Could you possibly share the little boy's name so that some of us can add him to our prayer list? Yes, bless his mother's heart. :icon_sad:

Even if she doesn't post the name poodoo, God knows. You can add them to your prayer list as "the boy mentioned on WCN." He is not limited by our limitations. Prayers for this youngin' and for Chris Lofton as well.

True. Too, I'm doing just that. Since you have thus posted, maybe more here will do the same. Also,:thumbup: on adding Chris Lofton to that list, as he will have to be checked for reoccurrence the rest of his life.

I really think it's impressive that we never heard a thing about this all season. It would have been easy for Lofton, when everybody was criticizing him for having a down year, to say, "Well, you know, I was playing with cancer."
But he didn't.
That's

I have the pleasure and honor of knowing Chris and his family personally.
While he was being "challenged" some on this board and others in regard to his recruitment and his play, those of us that knew him consistently posted that he (and his family) was a better person than he was a player (and he is a heck of a player).
This terrible situation with the cancer only confirms what we already knew.
Chris will be fine--because of his family and his faith.

With all due respect to Lofton and his KY roots, I believe enough time has been spent on this subject, his glorious toughness and his achievements.
Perhaps we can close the subject now and refocus on the big picture.
Nothing sucks like a big orange.

His name is Grant Tatro. He's the most adorable little guy. I read in the paper the day after that they put on a shave-a-thon, if I'd known about it sooner and I'd gotten my boys' heads shaved. It's a really sad story.

I was fortunate to be in Rupp for the UK/UT game. I participated in the loud, standing ovation for Chris Lofton. When I had heard this news, I thought back to that moment and was really thankful that the UK fans had given Chris that ovation. Ironically, little did we know then how much Chris deserved it.
Oh, yes, I'm also thankful that ovation helped to inspire Ramel to play one of the best games of his life, helping the Big Blue to defeat the Orange Vols. I had been SO HAPPY. :) Yet, UK's winning that game does not remotely compare to Chris Lofton's winning his battle with cancer. May God continue to be with the young man.
