Your going home Williams, see you next year.

49 Assists, 7 turnovers....isn't that a 7:1 Ratio?

That's crazy.

I watched that play live and couldn't believe it. Marvin Williams is completely overrated, and to think the Hawks took him over Chris Paul!

Rondo is an absolute NBA baller. He nailed both free throws after that foul, and then made a tough drive to the hoop a couple of plays later. Rondo is tough as nails, always has been. He's comfortable running the Celtics and rarely tries to do too much. He's one of the quickest players in The Association and is an All Star in the near future, no doubt.

Considering this would've been Rondo's senior season in college I think you have look back at his time at UK and ask "What if..." Not "what if" he stayed, because any player that darn talented NEEDS to leave early for the NBA.
No, I'm talking about "What if...Sophomore Season?"

I don't want to take this discussion somewhere negative, but you have to wonder how Rondo can be this good in the NBA, yet looked so out of sync late in his soph season at Kentucky. This isn't Chuck Hayes or Kelenna Azubuike we're talking about- UK players who are doing in the NBA everything they did in Kentucky uniforms.
Rondo is playing his game, very similar to what he did in stretches as a Cat, but obviously on a different level. How did the Rondo of today not absolutely DOMINATE in college all the time?

It's obvious to me that Rondo has worked tirelessly on his game, especially his shooting. This factor dispells the myth that young players can't get better in the NBA if they leave too early. The NCAA only allows so many supervised hours of coaching. And some kids just don't or won't work that hard on their own in college. Even kids who don't play a lick in the NBA (see: Morris, Randolph) can still improve their game if they work hard.

It's also obvious that the Rondo/Tubby marriage was strained at best. Who's to blame? Probably both of them. Both are extremely stubborn by all accounts, and both very confident in their ability. Maybe too much so at times. Rajon Rondo was too talented to struggle as much as he did at UK as a soph. And we didn't get near enough overall success out of his short career. I think you have to completely turn the reigns over to a player of Rondo's ability and Tubby just couldn't do that.

Congratulations to our former Cat Rajon Rondo. He's got the highest potential ceiling in the NBA of any recent Kentucky player. It's going to be fun to watch.

Rondo was not playing with Garnett, Allen and Pierce when he was at KY. Yes, we had talent but did not have the kind of dominating players he is playing with now. True, he has worked on his offensive game a lot but there is no offensive pressure placed on him in Boston. Don't get me wrong, he is playing at a very high level and has blossomed into one of the premier pg's in the league, but assists are made a lot easier when you are playing with the kind of guys he is playing with. Nothing degrading to Rondo, just trying to live in the real world. Keep improving and making big blue nation proud Rajon.

Yes, that math is correct. :icon_mrgreen: Seriously, Rondo's been UNREAL. Too, at one point he had had 24 assists to 1 turnover. That's a 24:1 ratio. ;) That had been prior to a couple of less stellar performances in Atlanta.

The play had really scared me. It was noted that Williams has actually been Rondo's friend since high school AND that Williams had won a sportsmanship award in Atlanta. Doc Rivers noted that it was two "good kids" making plays. Personally, I think the mentality to STOP an opponent's dunk has gotten to the ridiculously dangerous level. Williams reacted that way without thinking, I suspect. Meanwhile, though, Rajon could have been SERIOUSLY injured. As Raleigh Cat noted, though, Rajon was TOUGH, as he has always been.

Yes, as someone noted, Rondo's game looks quite different than his sophomore year partly because of the talent around him (and I STILL feel sick that Azubuike left and Morris left and missed the summer and first semester :icon_sad:). Also, though, without academics on the burner, Rondo has SO worked on his game. Not only has he so improved his jumper, but, according to Coach Rivers, he devotes a couple of hours a day to watching tape of their upcoming opponent.

KUDOS to this former Cat. Like RaleighCat (one of my fellow Rondo defenders a couple of years ago :icon_mrgreen:), I expect Rondo to be an All-Star one day. Watching him is so much FUN.

I think, and many would agree that Rondo had a"better" season in his freshman year than in his soph year. Setting the season steals record was incredible. But I do think he had better players around him in that 04-05 season too. the 05-06 season was just a mess. Morris out the first half, and I think those kansas and iu blowouts really took their toll. some players (Rondo included) seemed to just stop caring. For Rajon this was especially true since it was probably about halfway through the year when he knew in his mind that he was going pro. after that, it seemed he just wanted to get out of Lexington and move on...very uninspired play to me. But yes I think both Tubby and Rajon were both to blame but if you forget the name Tubby and insert "coach" than it would make sense that Rajon should have listened to "coach" more. Isn't that how it works ? same situation today and people would be riding Rajon's butt for not executing the gameplan, which he was obviously guilty of several times.
But that's all in the past and Rajon is indeed making both UK and our hometown, Louisville, look pretty good right now.

I don't know if he stopped caring or if his confidence was just shot.

I made a point of watching him before the first SEC Tournament game in Nashville his sophomore year. He took probably 50 jumpshots in warm-ups. He hit maybe 5.

And that's the thing. He has tirelessly worked on his jumper, and it's completely changed his overall game. That's a testament to Rajon. He always looked to me like a very coachable young man. He has noticed and accepted his weakness, and he's gone a very long way to correct it. The difference in Rajon Rondo right now and this time last season is almost unbelievable.

Maybe his confidence was shot, but I just feel that he could have been a much better player at UK if he had wanted to.
