Typically, the recruiting process begins when a promising high school athlete starts receiving mail from colleges. Justin Brown had a more proactive approach. The four-star wide receiver from Wilmington (Del.) Concord High School decided he would initiate contact with the schools that held his interest.

Thanks for the info, Ukosumo. Too, here's hoping Justin Brown decides to become a Cat. :)

He would be a good one. After looking at his list of offers over on rivals one of my first thoughts was, now that UK has offered I bet we see UL and Arkansas pop up on his list. Our coaches sure can identify talent.

This quality is so underrated these days. There are a number of reasosn for this...
Generally a high GPA means they have their head screwed on straight and aren't likely to go out and screw up their lives. Also there is always the possibility of an academic scholly. Thirdly, it takes some deal of discipline to maintain a high GPA and keep focused on school. This discipline may transfer to workouts, practices and games and the student-athlete is more likely to maximize their potential.

Although those points are pretty basic, I believe they need to be reemphasized not only to the students themselves and coaches, but the fans as well.

When it says the guy is "targeting UK", does that mean he's ready to commit to UK if UK makes an offer, or something else? Thanks.

I like the potential, I like the grades, I like the recruit. Go get him, Rich Brooks!
