HOOVER, Ala. -- Attempting to do something that hadn’t been done to Alabama in 28 years, the 19th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats allowed five runs in the second inning and never recovered as the No. 29 Crimson Tide handed UK a 13-4 loss in the third-round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, in front of a boisterous 11,519 fans at Regions Park.

Am I reading this correctly that they will be playing in the NCAA?

Yeah, ranked in the top 20 in the nation with as many wins as UK has, they should most definitely be in. What a disappointing loss though. I didn't think anyone looked better than UK did after day one, and I think that the walk-off homer on Friday really took all the wind out of the Cats' sails. Tough tourney for them. I think they have such a bright future ahead for all the younger players though. Great experience even in both losses.

I attended the game with my neighbor who is a Bammer and it was probably UK's poorest performance of the season (or at least I hope it was). Although I will say that the strike zone for the Bama pitchers appeared to be about a mile wide. It was a hard game to sit through. I had a feeling when they hit the grandslam that the game was over.

I agree, supertroy18. Also, knowing how hard I and other UK fans had taken that loss, I had reaaly been concerned that the players would not be mentally ready to play. Too, after the Alabama player who had previously been 0-11 in the tourney hit that grand slam, I don't think the Cats ever recovered.
What about that horrible call at first base when the Cats had had the top part of their batting order up in the eighth inning! I could surely understand Coach Cohen's frustration and anger. Yes, the Alabama infielder made a great play, BUT that didn't change the two facts that the UK player (Wiley or whoever it was) had most obviously beaten the throw, besides their first baseman's being slightly drawn off the bag. I think the umpires knew the call had been incorrect and thus tolerated more from Cohen, not throwing him out of the game.
The Bat Cats should definitely be in the NCAA Tourney. I just worry that the loss Thursday night will keep them from getting to host a regional. :icon_sad: By the way, those spots are to be announced tomorrow night at seven eastern time. GO BAT CATS!
