I just heard, on LEX18, that Jerrell Green was arrested last night. I was on the other end of the house and did not get the details.

A potential Mr. Football candidate for next season is in trouble with the law.
Dunbar High school running back Jerrell Greene was arrested Tuesday and charged with first degree robbery.
According to police, the 18-year-old tried to steal four packages of the cold medicine Coricidin from Kroger on Alexandria Drive.
Police say when employees tried to stop him, Greene started a fight and two people received minor injuries.
Greene appeared in court on Wednesday, entering a not guilty plea. He and his family refused to talk to us on camera.
In April, Greene verbally committed to UK to play football in 2009.
According to the company that markets the cold medicine Coricidin, many teens are abusing the drug to get high.

Stealing and a fight over cough syrup.

There is a real problem somewhere.

Hopefully this incident will bring repentance and a life changing/saving transformation. He will eventually find out that drugs lead to death in many ways.

Not to convict him before his day in court, but UK does not need that kind of activity associated with the team.

If he doesn't transform, there is always Louisville.

That was no ordinary "cough syrup" and he injured at least one woman in the process. He got caught and then chose to fight the store employees. As far as I am concerned boot him hard and now.:thumbdn:

Not sure what we should do but we showed loyalty to Duran Jefferson till he couldn't come to UK. Net, I suspect we'll do the same here.

I agree, I have no tolerance for thug punks like this kid...I don't want to see him in a UK uniform ever.

Louisville or UT might take him.

Really hope this kid gets it together and that he realizes that God doesn't just bestow such athletic gifts and the opportunities for a free education on everyone.

I, for one, hope the kid get's this issue settled. If he gets it taken care of, I don't see any problem with him being a wildcat. Everyone makes mistakes. He will get charged with a misdemeanor, he will get community service, and he will get on with his life. I wouldn't throw him under the bus.

This may have been a prank or dare that went bad.

This may have been the visible sign of something far more sinister.

We just don't know.

The kid is just a commit and can't sign anything until the first Wednesday in February 2009.

There's no need for an immediate reaction.

I suspect Brooks will let this play out and the University and staff can't comment publicly anyway.

RV think of it like this.

He tried to steal and then got into a fight over a bottle of cough syrup.

There is a major problem somewhere.

Let's not rush to judgment. How many times has there been a news story, only to find out later there's a "rest of the story?" Brooks has shown himself to be a disciplinarian who won't tolerate troublemakers. This will play out and if the situation is truly as serious as it first appears, I seriously doubt we'll ever see Greene in a UK uniform. If it's not, who knows?

Trust Brooks to make the right decision.

Actually this is just ordinary cough syrup. The only psychoactive ingredient is dxm, which you'll find in any bottle of robitussin or nyquil.

I read somewhere that it was reduced to a misdemeanor charge. Can't find the article for confirmation however.

I agree with Crazzed and Gunsmoke... No tolerance for these actions... Sounds like the type of kid Big Boy Phil would want to give a scholarship to!!!! Give him a one way bus ticket to Knoxville and he will fit right in... But then again, we have enough of that crap down here in the Knoxville area.. We sure don't need any more of that.. On second thought, send him to Louisville... SAD to say the least! I hope he finds help.

^ We don't really know what these "actions" were. That's for the courts to decide. A felony conviction & he should be gone. A misdemeanor, some type punishment is in order by us too but he should still be given a chance. Maybe he has to pay his own way for a semester? As far as I know, he's not been in trouble at all before. No conviction, no harm or foul.

Greene has now reopened recruiting. He and UK apparently have decided to part company.
