His mother, Toni, didn't make the trip to Lexington. However, she made it clear Sunday she was ecstatic with the news when her son called.
"We were very, very happy with the offer. Teddy came home and told me and I was so proud," she said. "We are putting the decision about where he goes in his court. Education is important. He has asked us a lot of questions, but coming home from UK he was very excited. He liked the campus, the coaches and the facilities
"We do plan on going back down there. I want to talk to them to see how they can guide him and see to it that he gets the best grades and education possible. But this is exciting news for us."
"And it turned out to be a pretty good move not going to Purdue because now he has a SEC offer, and that is very, very special."

Indian Hill isn't a HS FB power at all & is a medium/small size, extremely wealthy school district. Not known for putting out athletes. I real find amongst all the large school powers' prospects there.
Strange that he's in IH school district & dad is a school teacher - in KY no less when OH teacher salaries are higher. Don't see how a family could afford to live there on a KY teacher's salary. Perhaps mom makes big bucks.

I am curious at us offering another TE prospect with the Aumiller commitment, having Stackhouse coming this Fall, & depth already. We don't have that many recruiting spots for multiple TE's. Coaches thinking some of these guys will wind up at other positions - maybe DE or OT?

My goodness, UK on the upswing and the SEC certainly makes for a great recruiting combination.

I thought the same thing, when I read this article.

He must be one special player. I liked what they said about him.

You can never have too many TE type players. They are in general a very versatile position. Added size can make them a good OL or DE player. Take size away and the add depth to your WR if they are quick enough. Generally guys with good size, good to great hands, and good speed for their size. That all equals multiple places they can play. Generally they are pretty smart players as well.

You're right. Good hands will keep them on offense but if they are found wanting in that regard by adding just a little weight they can prove to be a prototype LB in the 6-4 230 range.

Or OL like Scott last year.

Or DE. That's why TE recruits are great. They have the size/speed attributes that can adapt to a lot of different positions. But this one reportedly has flypaper hands, so he's going to be a TE.

Apparently Bolser committed to IU after the Justin Jones commit to us. From Rivals:
"It was going to be either IU or Kentucky," said Bolser. "They (Kentucky) actually had another tight end commit today. The kid who committed there today has authority over whether he wants to play tight end or defensive end and if he wanted to play tight end, they said basically I would have to play for my position and I did not like that situation."
Best to him. Makes sense I think.

This is a strange situation. I thought everyone had to earn their position. I didn't know players were promised, in advance, that they could play the position they wanted to, while others could not. If true, I hate this happened because Bolser seemed to want to be at UK. I'm not so sure about Jones as he has said he still plans to visit So. Car. again after the coaching staff returns from their vacations.

^ I think this means JJ has his choice of position to play, not that Jones is guaranteed playing time. Brooks lets all guys do that to my knowledge.
Perhaps they informed Bolser after JJ's commit that he'd be up against two tough cookies - Aumiller & JJ - as a way to get him to think elsewhere without actually withdrawing his offer. Just speculation by me.

Because the teacher pay in Ohio is better than it is further south, teaching jobs are pretty scarce in Ohio--especially with the general economy of the state being even worse than the national average as the 'rust belt' continues it's decline. I'd guess that there are quite a few teachers in Ohio and Indiana who teach across the river.
Brooks&Co are really going for those tall receiver types. We've got some coming in this season and then 3 already committed for the 2009 class--all over 6' 0". I think he and Joker figure that if they bring in enough, a couple of them will have to turn out to be good enough for SEC play.
