Talk about a beat down, I've seen pimps treat their women better than your own local paper treats uk football and AD.

Given the events of the past three years, the University of Kentucky must believe this is the way, as Rich and Mitch like to put it, you "grow" a football program:
•After your school's second winning season in 13 years, you allow Coach Guy Morriss to leave for Baylor.
•You replace him with 61-year-old Rich Brooks, who has been out of football for two years, and not coached in college for 10.
•You watch Brooks hire an offensive coordinator, Ron Hudson, who turns out to be so unpopular he is shown the door after just two years.
•You award your loyal, long-suffering and probation-saddled fans with increases in both ticket prices and premium seating requirements.•You lose at home to Ohio University.
•Now, in the name of "growing our young football program," as you put it, you take one of the best things about Kentucky football, the season opener with archrival Louisville, and drain the fun right out of it.
Instead of keeping it front and center, you move it to a later spot on your home schedule, either the second or third week, where few outside the state will notice.
Is this "growing" a program, or shrinking it?
Maybe we're being too hard on Mitch Barnhart. After all, the UK athletics director was only acting on his head coach's behalf when negotiating a new four-year UK-U of L football contract announced Wednesday.
And yes, Brooks has his reasons for wanting to move the traditional opening opponent back. He's 0-2 versus the 'Ville. But just because Rich Brooks can't beat the Cards in the opener doesn't mean Kentucky can't beat the Cards in the opener.
Guy Morriss did it. Hal Mumme did it. Even Bill Curry did it. And Louisville didn't cry about the contract. It got better. Much better.
UK seems set on a different blueprint, one with a fat yellow stripe down the center. Instead of telling Louisville, "We'll play you any place, any time," the Cats said, "We'll play you when we're ready, and not a minute before."
That's fine. What's done is done. Maybe Rich and Mitch know what they're doing. Maybe selective scheduling is what it's all about. Maybe the dynamic duo can move Tennessee to, say, off the schedule.
Or maybe they're not as "selfish" as U of L Coach Bobby Petrino thinks.
After all, Rich and Mitch have generously provided their archrival with (a) more incentive, (b) more exposure and (c) more of a following.
The Cards now have even more of a reason to want to beat UK at Commonwealth come Sept. 15, 2007.
Since Louisville is smartly keeping UK as its opener, the Cards are all but assured a national TV audience when they beat the Cats at Papa John's. But when (or if) UK beats U of L at Commonwealth, in the midst of a million other college and pro games played later in the month, few will care.
Congratulations, Rich and Mitch, you've made UK-U of L into Iowa-Iowa State.
You've also put a few more fannies in Louisville's seats. That hard-line stance may have placated your hard-core fans -- those who don't want to play Louisville in the first place -- but it probably pushed any fence-sitters into the U of L camp.
After all, would you rather root for the inferior program that runs and hides, or the superior program that wants to line up and play?
Seems the only football program UK keeps growing is Louisville's.
Let the spin begin...

Rick where did you ever get the idea that the Lexington Herald-Leader was pro-UK? The sports writers of that rag have made a living slamming UK just as I have made a habit of lining my cat's litter box with the sports page of the LHL. When we used to get the Courier Journal where I live I found it to be more sympathetic to UK than that anti-UK rag in Lexington. You could put Mark Story, Jerry Tipton, and John Clay together and you still would not get an IQ intelligent enough on sports especially UK sports of even writing a sports article. That paper sucks and of course you UL fans know that and just maybe you should subscribe to that rag in Louisville. It would be even more sympathetic to the Cards than the CJ. I am shocked that you would even think that the LHL was a pro-UK paper.;)

Im a hardcore wildcat fan, but I have to side with the ville on this one. The game should've stayed where it was. Try to justify or slam it all you want, to me the move makes no sense either way. We should have taken our arse whipping and keep trying to get better. This makes us look like cowards.

How do you know "we" are going to take an "arse whipping" AlMeister? Truth is you don't and it is not like a UK fan to throw in the towel so easily especially one who doesn't want the Wildcats to look like cowards. It makes me wonder!:?

Lol, makes you wonder? The only ones who threw in the towel were Mitch and Coach Brooks. Deny it all you want everybody and I mean EVERYBODY knows why they moved the game. BTW its not like a UK fan to justify admitting defeat to another team either.
