Almost every draft site you see has Griffin has Oklahoma's Blake Griffin as the #1 pick.

Is there something I'm missing.

Yeah, I know the guy is 6'10" (bet he's not, though) and built like a rock wall, and I know he's got a little bit of away-from-the-basket skill. But I saw Griffin play a few times last year--once sitting about ten feet from him at Madison Square Garden--and while he was a solid player, he did not look special. Certainly not as special as our own Patrick Patterson.

Maybe I am missing something. Maybe Griffin will have a bust-out year. And there's no doubt he's an NBA talent, but the #1 overall pick? I wouldn't be surprised at all if things didn't change between now and next June.

If Blake Griffin is ever a #1 pick, we will surely know the end of time has come. I watched this kid play some last year. Yep, he's a good player. Better than Patterson? Nope. Not even close. Even if I weren't a UK fan, I would say this. Griffin just never struck me as being that extraordinary.

You may have seen him playing with an injury, he had a bum foot or leg for much of the season.

He's very similar to Patterson, every bit as tough and hard-working. He's also a couple inches taller and has a more refined offensive game. His biggest trait is that he's as close to it gets as a "bust-proof" big man prospect: he's not lazy and he's already pretty developed. He has good potential, but even if he doesn't reach it he'll still be a fine player.

I don't think he goes #1, but he has all the tools to be a good pro for a very long time in the NBA, a la Boozer or Brand.

Edit: Before last season, Griffin and Patterson matched up in a HS all-star game and went at it ferociously. I didn't see it, but remember the writeup that gushed praise all over both.

At CBSSports.com Griffin is considered the only projected top 10 pick who returned to college this past draft. Therefore, I can see some logic to this. Personally, I've never seen him play- or if I did he must not have been impressive because I don't remember.

I could see the argument that patterson is a better college player but I dont think he is a better pro prospect. Blake seems to have a better ability to create his own shot and can drive to the basket. patterson cant really take anyone to the basket, something I am hoping he is working hard on when the foot gets to be 100%
