The 2008 NBA draft is not even 24 hours old and CBS Sportsline's Gary Parrish is already set to scare the living daylights out of Kentucky basketball fans.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Patrick and his family have maintained all along that Patrick would be at UK his full four years, and I believe them. Just because a bunch of other kids before him have said the same thing and changed their mind, it doesn't automatically mean he is going to follow suit. As hard as it may seem to believe, there are a few people left in the world whose word is their bond. I fully expect to see PP being introduced to the Rupp Arena crowd on Senior Day as he prepares to play his last home game.

I noticed in Chad Ford's evaluations, Patterson was nowhere to be seen in the lottery.

A good year for Patterson is good for UK. There is NOTHING wrong with that kid having a big year and then declaring.

However, a potential front line of Daniel Orton and Patterson is something to be excited about.

I hope he does stay but I can't blame him if he changes his mind and goes to the NBA after this season. If he has another great year he will make a ton of money with his high draft pick. He can always come back to college to finish up his education if he gets hurt in the NBA and probably buy a house and pay cash while doing so. :)

If Mr. Patterson sees a championship team recruited that may weigh on him a lot.

My feelings are the same, freethrow. Too, though, selfishly, I would LOVE to see Patterson and Orton together on the court as Cats.

UK with zero lottery-picks in 10 seasons and all the other "elites" with many - sure solidifies my complaints about whom and why our program slid from "elite status".

I remember after beating Tennessee last season, that Buster Patterson said they were here to stay. Anything I know of the Patterson's tells me they wouldn't say something like this, then do the opposite. Now, if Patrick has a sensational year, and elects to go pro, I don't have a problem with it. Things change, and I realize that. But the Patterson's word is good with me.

all that will change very soon IMHO....slipped a bit?, yes....but i don't think we have slid from "elite status"....you can't just disappear overnight when you're the winningest team in NCAA history and have 7 NC's...Kentucky is still Kentucky....now if things had kept on the way they had been heading then you might see a major decline (maybe not-who's to say?)....but the powers that be at UK IMHO will not let that happen...was UNC a "has been" in the doherty era?....(not comparing that with tubby's tenure before i get annhilated for that comment)....no program can stay in the top 5 year in year out...it's just not humanly possible....only duke can do that....how they can lose 3 straight fall totally out of the top 20, win one game and go back to the top 7 is beyond me....we're headed back to the top, it's just going to take Coach G some time to get the ducks in a row....we're just seeing the ebb and flow of things i think....the giant is waking from slumber once again....

why...WHY?????....WHY do people put stock in these sorts of things????????????

they are meaningless and meant only for some sports journalist to meet a deadline and stir the pot.....

The amount of attention we took from Billy D's second championship run and the final four in general should be indicative of our status on the national level. Enough said on that.

Has always been to enjoy whatever time we have with Patrick Patterson. He's a lottery talent and has all the tools to be a long time NBA player. He might not get Kentucky to the Final Four but players he helps notice Kentucky will get there. He's Billy G's 'Jamal Mashburn' as he's showing other players that Kentucky is a place to go and be successful.

What does Parrish know? Patterson was a top 7 choice in this year's 2008 draft and i will argue that with anyone...........

I'd love to agree with you but we hear these things all the time. Not sure if this will be any different.

Until I hear Patterson say "I'm coming back for my Senior season", I'll keep my expectations reserved.

It's just human nature.

I can appreciate your position. If I end up being wrong and he leaves early, so be it. I'm just not prone to automatically assume he'll leave, but at the same time, I can understand taking a "wait and see" approach.

I am, however, VERY glad that this is something WE, as UK fans, have to be concerned with and not Gator or Tarheel fans, if you get my meaning. :icon_mrgreen:;)

BB75. Not trying to argue or anything, but one report with quotes from his Mom said that they would evaluate the situation at season's end, and not until then.

I don't know if he'll stay or not. But if he comes back 110% healthy, combined with the added help he'll receive, he ought to be a lock for lottery status. In that case, he'd be foolish to not go, especially given his history of injuries (basically this one, but the past ankle troubles are what I speak of in addition to the last).

If I HAD to bet, I'd say next year is his last if things go the way they should.

No problem, Matt. I just remember the first few interviews I saw with her plus one I saw with his dad and they both said he was at UK for four years. Everyone has their own views about whether or not he leaves early or not..it doesn't make anyone right or wrong. Like I said before, if it turns out he ends up leaving early, so be it. There won't be anything we as fans can do about it. For me, I'm just going to expect to see him suiting up as a Wildcat for the next three years until I hear otherwise. But again, if it makes it easier for some 'Cat fans to take the stance that they expect him to leave, that's okay, too. We'll just have to see how it plays out.

If Patterson decides to leave for the NBA after this coming year no one should criticize him. Just be thankful we had him last year and this year to come.

Especially following this ankle injury, if he is a projected lottery pick at the end of the season then I know the choice I would make in his shoes. The UK fan in me would want to stay, but the logical side would force me to take care of my family and my financial future.

I believe many of the players who have so called "done the right thing" and stayed 4 years have often been players who's families are already wealthy (Hansborough for example). If you are a kid from a middle income family that has a chance to secure your families future I don't see how you can afford to take any risk at losing it.

If you're a lottery-pick, you have to go!! I felt Pat could've been a top-20 player this year, had he not gotten hurt. Boy, I'd love to see him and Orton together.

Has anyone got footage of this Orton kid? I have heard a lot about him, but never seen any footage of him

I think he would be top 10, I would rather have him over any of the Lopez twins and other few out of the top 10
