Seeing Bud's name dropping in on a lot of boards. Since I'm off work and
no beer in the house, I'll give my last opinion on this one:

We all drooled over Bud's potential.
Most of us were thinking 'the kid just needs a chance'
I've seen some posts wondering about him walking on. That he wasn't caught dealing. That it was a 'technicality'...a mistake.

The guy had crack in his shoe. It ain't like Dad had on my jacket and he dropped his joint in the pocket. No mistake. IN SCHOOL....no mistake.

He violated his probation agreement. No mistake.

Now...he didn't finish school. No diploma. No GED that I know of. (Maybe
by now, but no one has posted if he has)

Bud Mackey has shown no public attempt to get it right.
Lotta folks say that this is a 'do-gooders' stance; that I need to face facts: UK needs basketball players.

If I want basketball players that have acknowledged behavior issues, social issues, drug issues, alcohol issues and are not trying to get some
help, I'll be an NBA fan, not a college fan.

Billy Gillispie is a coach. Not a social worker. Not a behavioral psychiatrist.
Not a criminal investigator and not a warden. He has enough to do being
the basketball coach at Kentucky.

If Bud Mackey can turn his life around, God bless him.
If he wants to continue with the 'mistakes' he made and play college ball,
get his GED and sign with Tennessee.

At least you'd get used to orange clothes...if things don't get straight, that's going to be all the colors in his wardrobe he'll see.

I sure won't kick a young man while he is down. I will wait and see how all of this plays out in court. I wish the young man the best and hope that he gets back on the right track.

Yeah, but he's got to truly want to change.

As my old management professor (Dr. Gibson) used to say:

"Nothing changes until the conviction of sin is reached."

I completely respect the thought to not take a risk with him/give him a chance. If the wind is right i will agree with it 9 times out of 10.

However, what do we loose if he walks on? I know that it could cause locker room drama; we dont want another sparks rondo fiasco. But those were both scholarship players, they needed to stay. This guy won have any think from having coach boot him, him being a walk on even though he is good enough for a scholarship is his reminder we don't need him.

Just another way to look at it, i will be happy either way.

Unless he does some major changing and can stay out of trouble, I think we have to pass. I love winning as much as the next guy, probably more but theat's not the way to go. I don't put up with it from my H.S. teams and don't think UK should either.

"However, what do we loose if he walks on?"

Your reputation, period. I'm a solid no way.

Former high school basketball star Jonathan “Bud” Mackey was released from jail early Thursday after serving a 60-day sentence for violating a bond agreement stemming from a felony drug charge.

I don't think he has time to qualify , liggins has been working his butt off to qualify and he finished high school so unless he was taking classes while in jail and taking his act's and sat's while still in jail , this thread is probally a moot point in his career . Maybe next year if he straightens up and graduates high school and can show a turn around in his attitude and lifestyle .
