Cosby notebook: Family ties give Cats edge

Zach Martin is technically a Hoosier, but there's also plenty of blue in his blood.


Martin, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive lineman from Indianapolis' Bishop Chatard High, is one of the country's top tackle prospects and was labeled a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. He also happens to be the son of former UK defensive lineman Keith Martin, who played at Kentucky in the early 1980s with UK offensive coordinator Joker Phillips and linebackers coach Chuck Smith. His mother, Pam, was an athletic trainer at Kentucky during that time.

Thanks to Chip Cosby for the UK football info, too. :) It's the first Sunday in July, the month before the season begins, and there's not a word about the Kentucky football team in the CJ (and only news about Louisville's Trent Guy's having been shot). Give credit to the CJ's Eric Crawford for admitting last week that he had been wrong about his strong view in regard to the spot for the Louisville/Kentucky game, though. He even noted there had been LESS talk about the game this summer than last summer, even though the game will be back to the first game of the season this year. GO CATS! BEAT THE CARDS!
