An article in the Austin-American Statesman yesterday:
http://www.statesman.com/business/content/business/stories/other/07/05/0705bourbon.html
LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — To Wild Turkey master distiller Jimmy Russell, the piercing sounds of a warehouse rising in the Kentucky countryside are the sounds of prosperity.
"As long as you see work going on — and the construction, and increasing your size — you know your business is doing well," said Russell, who started working for the bourbon maker in 1954.
Distillers are expanding their bourbon production and storage and dispatching sales teams around the world, bullish for a traditionally Southern beverage gaining popularity worldwide. Surging exports, the weak U.S. dollar and rising popularity among younger Americans are driving the boom.
"It's an exciting time to be in the bourbon business," said Max Shapira, president of Heaven Hill Distilleries Inc., a family-owned liquor company based in Bardstown, Ky. "Most of the time that I've been in the business — up until about the last 10 years — everybody was trying to consign the bourbon category to that great liquor store in the sky."

It's a nice article, but I was disappointed the author didn't mention some of the bourbons, such as Woodford Reserve, by name. Also, I feel Jack Daniel whiskey shouldn't have been mentioned in an article about bourbon since it's not a bourbon.

A good quote from the article my hubby will disagree with :icon_mrgreen:
"Although bourbon wasn't made to make cocktails, it works so well with cocktails,"
Just think of all the combinations I can concoct from his collection -
Stagg and Coke, Jefferson Old Fashion, Pappy's Punch, Weller's Ice Tea, Woodford Sour, Knob Fizz :icon_mrgreen:

I agree about the Jack Daniels. Mentioning it in the same article is bourbon blasphemy.

I had to read this sentence through again to understand that it meant Kentucky bourbon is the choice for one in five cocktails at the Hotel Ritz's Hemingway bar in Paris, France, not "at the Hemingway Bar at the Hotel Ritz in Paris, Kentucky". I love my hometown, but that just didn't sound right. :shrug1::big_grin: I did know some Fields, but none named Colin. ;)
At the Hemingway Bar at the Hotel Ritz in Paris, Kentucky bourbon is the choice for one in five cocktails, head bartender Colin Field said, though it still trails vodka and cognac in popularity.

Tennessee whiskey was made for the above drinks, NOT Kentucky bourbon...that could be grounds for divorce. ;)
The article was in yesterday's Denver Post

Sure, I go out of town for a few days and look what happens. After 26 (lo-o-o-o-o-o-ong) years of marriage I still can't leave you unattended. ;)
Thankfully I polished off the last of the Stagg and Weller before I left, otherwise I may have had a coronary...
